This is Your Life
There was a very popular television series which aired from 1952 through 1961 called "This is Your Life." Some of you old-timers (like me) may remember it. I can remember watching this show as a child - we hardly ever missed it in my house. It was hosted by Ralph Edwards who narrated and introduced the person being recognized. He then introduced people from this person's past who had been inspired by their life and accomplishments. It brought recognition to a lot of "hometown heroes" - everyday folks who had done something to help their fellowman in some way. The person being honored always seemed to be surprised and tears were usually shed.
"This is Your Life" was a very family-oriented program and taught good principles. I don't believe I have seen a show since then that honors the integrity and morals of an individual. It seems nowadays the main thing portrayed on the airwaves is the focus on self and all the depravation that focus brings with it in our society. That is a shame, isn't it? What happened to Andy Griffith and Beaver Cleaver? Those shows taught children ethics, of always being honest, of loving our neighbors and honoring our parents.
Anyway, I am getting off the subject I originally had on my mind. I got to thinking about that program and it dawned on me how it may be sort of like what happens when we die. I've always heard it said that your life flashes before you when you get ready to take your final breath. I don't know if that's true but it would make sense. I would like to imagine that if you are washed in the blood of Jesus Christ you will see the day you repented and all the joyful days you've had in Christ since that time.
What about people that have never repented? Will they see every bad thought or action they have ever committed? As their whole life flashes before their eyes - can you imagine the horror of knowing THIS IS IT and it's too late to do anything about those sins? There's no time left now....
We think we have all the time in the world. We really think we are invincible. Where does that come from? I think it comes from God, Himself. God placed eternity in our souls - a longing to live forever. But, to live forever with Him in heaven - not in this wicked world. When we do not accept how to fulfill that longing with Jesus Christ, we delude ourselves into thinking we have so much time. We plan our lives like we are in control. We think we will live forever and we don't even think about death or preparing our souls for it.
But, I want to say this -in love- that one day and it may be very soon, you just may hear God say; "This is Your Life. What did you do with My Son? What did you do to glorify My name?"
Will you have an acceptable answer? I pray you will....
