Then flew one of the
seraphim to me,
having in his hand
a burning coal
which he had taken
with tongs
from the altar.
[Isaiah 6:6]

"Lord, we had a disagreement
in class, tonight."
"What about, My child?"
"Well.........it might seem
kind'a stupid, but....."
"Go on."
"I don't know, Lord.
(thoughtful pause)
Maybe, it's just me....."
"Spit it out, My precious."
"Okay. Okay!
Well.....it's that part where
the sera.....that ANGEL
picks up that piece a'
coal up from the barbecue."
[LAUGH!]
"Well, it SOUNDS
like a BARBECUE, Lord;
I mean, what with the
tongs, and all."
[SMILE.]
"I understand, My beloved."
(thoughtful squint)
"I didn't know they
HAD barbecues, in those DAYS?"
"What does My Word say, child?"
"Oh, this part, Lord?
There is nothing new
under the sun.
[Ecclesiastes 1:9]"
[SOLEMN NOD.]
"So.....Lord?
DID that hurt,
or DIDN'T it?
I gotta' KNOW!"
"What, My child."
"The COAL!
The piece 'a COAL!
DID IT, or
DIDN'T IT?"
"Ah.
I see."
"I said it DID.
But, the other ladies
said it DIDN'T!"
"Why do you think
it did, My child?"
(very serious squinting)
"Well.....I don't wanna
be, eh......irreverent,
Lord, but...."
"Speak, child."
"Well, I think most
of the stuff You do to us
hurts, Lord."
"I understand, little one."
"I'm sorry.
(silence)
But.....that's just been
my experience a' life."
[PATIENT SILENCE]
"It's very hard."
[NOD.]
"And, sad."
[NOD.]
"Very sad."
"And, painful,
child?"
"More than I thought
it would be, Lord.
I gotta' be honest
with 'Ya."
"Read My Word, child."
"Yeah.
(sigh)
Okay:
I have said this to you,
that in Me
you may have peace.
In the world
you have tribulation;
but be of good cheer,
I have overcome
the world.

(silence)
Yeah.
But, Lord?
This isn't from
the JEWISH part!
Are 'Ya sure
It's for ME?"
[SMILE.]
"Yes, My beloved.
It is."

my mouth,
and said:
Behold, this
has touched your lips;
your guilt is taken away
and your sin
forgiven.
