“At times I can’t stand myself,” thought 15 year old Edna Tiger following an argument she had started with her best friend. That afternoon she received a D grade on her history test she never studied for. Then that evening after dinner she realized she had not sent a “thank you” note to her grandmother for the $100.00 birthday gift. Feeling a failure on all fronts of her life, Edna telephoned her aunt Lucy. After a short talk, Edna and her aunt prayed together. She felt a little better but a sense of guilt continued to linger for several days more.
On Valentine’s Day, Edna received a valentine in the mail. It was just a folded sheet of red construction paper with about a dozen pink heart-shaped stickers on it. On the front of the valentine read: A Valentine for Edna Tiger.
Inside was message:
As the Father has loved Me,
So have I loved you.
Your Dearest Friend,
Jesus
+++
Edna was so moved she could not hold back the tears that soon made their way down her cheeks. “How blessed and special am I even when I have acted so miserably and irresponsible to my family, friends and even to God Himself,” she thought.
Edna BELIEVED she knew for certain what human hand had constructed that valentine, but she knew with absolute certainty the One Who spoke those words did so with dying love and conviction then, now and in her future! And His valentine was more than just stickers and a piece of paper!
Do you know anyone who would like to receive a valentine from Jesus? May He depend upon your hands?
