Poetry
(written 9-16-03)
Why do we turn from the God of our love,
the grand glorious stream from heaven above?
We’ve all seen mighty works from Him,
yet we return to salacious sin.
His promises alone bring a righteous return,
but we go back to lusts that always burn.
What do we show to the world whom we preach,
when iniquity’s the choice for which we reach?
You are the sole sumptuous Lord,
yet You’ve chosen this unholy horde.
We alone have spit in Your face,
we’ve made Your word a wrongful disgrace.
Forgive us this, just one more time,
Grant us the grace to turn from the slime.
Make us again Your glorious ray.
Through the good You will show, as in previous day.
Your Christ is the measure and sign of Your heart.
Grant us the strength to ne’er depart.
We will praise Your grace and Your mercy.
Break us from the sin that grieves You and me.
You are the righteous and glorious Lord.
You’ve taken us as Your reward.
By the blood of Your Son’s sacrifice.
‘Cause the sound of Truth is Jesus Christ.
