My heart was seeking for love and friendship
In a world that was too busy for the likes of me
But all that I could find were mere mortal men
Who were needy just like me
People who only love for what they get in return
And my heart was left in an aching void
Wounded heart and broken feelings
Were all that they could give me
Until my eyes were turned unto You
Friend of friends that I could find
You came so close to see my heart
And to know my emptiness, but…
Lord You didn’t turn Your back on me
And You didn’t turn Your face away
You didn’t try to run away from my sufferings, O no!
But instead You chose to stay so close to me
When nobody else could care
And that is why I’ve made You
My Friend of friends!
Right upon a hill they dragged Him
Between two thieves Jesus was nailed
All ‘earthly friends’ deserted Him
And it seemed like God forsook Him too
So naked and bruised in body and spirit
Yet He raised His voice just to pray for us
And He said, ‘Father please, do not hold them guilty
For they know not what they do’
But we all stood there to laugh and to mock
As He closed His eyes to give up His spirit
But when He conquered death He still came for us
Just to be our Friend of friends, yes…
Lord You didn’t turn Your back on us
And You didn’t turn Your face away
You didn’t try to run away from our sufferings, O no!
But instead You chose to stay so close to us
When nobody else could care
And that is why we’ve made You
Our Friend of friends!
Love crucified arose again! O Halleluiah!
Grace, mercy and hope to freely give to all
Who reach their hands out to Him today as He’s passing by
Just to make Him the Friend of friends for evermore!
