The Ultimate Love
The Ultimate Love
Characters: Jenna, Mandy, Kathryn, Justin, Luke, Travis, Angel
(Jenna, Mandy, Kathryn walk in from stage right carrying shopping bags)
Kathryn: Whoa, Jenna, thereís no need to get all theological andÖwhatever. It was just a simple question.
Jenna: No, it was dumb. Who cares what everyone got for Easter?
Mandy: Um, me. See, cuz I got this really weird color toe nail polish, and Iím willing to it trade for chocolate.
Jenna: Christmas is already so material minded, why do we have to commercialize Easter, too? Canít we have one holiday totally committed to honoring God?
Kathryn: Itís called Thanksgiving. And itís such a bore.
Mandy: Yeah, who really likes green bean casserole, anyway?
Angel: (Luke 12:34) For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
(Justin, Luke, Travis walk in from stage left, tossing around a football)
Justin: I still canít believe we missed the first quarter of that game!
Luke: Yeah. Church is supposed to start at 10:45 and end at noon. But, noooo. Not Easter Sunday. Cuz we gotta be all, moved by the Spirit of God and thankful for all of our wonderful blessings and glad baby Jesus came to BethlehemÖ
Justin: Youíre mixing up your holidays there, Luke, but I have to agree with you anyway.
Travis: You guys donít think that remembering that Jesus died on the cross for our sins is more important that the first quarter of a measly football game?
Angel: (Psalm 111:10) The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdomÖ
Mandy: I think weíre being a bit of a drama queen here, Jenna.
Kathryn: Mandyís right. Since when do you really care aboutÖthat kind of stuff?
Jenna: You mean God? Ever since I started going to church. Iím realizing that God isnít just some name people use when they get upset; Heís real. And He loves me.
Mandy: OK, where is Jenna and what have you done with her?
Angel: (John 3:16) For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Travis: Guys! This is serious stuff! Real stuff. Donít make me quote John 3:16.
Justin: Dude. Look. This religion stuff is all well and good for Sunday morning-
Luke: -if it doesnít interfere with a game-
Justin: -but thereís no need to get all obsessed. Iím a good guy; I havenít killed anybody, so Iím covered.
Travis: Then why did ďEasterĒ ever even happen in the first place?
Angel: (2 Timothy 4:2) Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.
Jenna: Ok, then tell me what Easter means to you.
Mandy: Family and friends.
Kathryn: Making memories and sharing love.
Travis: Easterís all about love! The ultimate love! God sacrificed his only Son in place of us. We sinned. We deserved to die. Jesus died on our cross-
Jenna: -and then rose from the dead three days later, so we can have a personal relationship with God and live with Him one day!
Jenna and Travis: Now tell me thatís not worth some respect.
Angel: (Romans 8:38-39) For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor heights nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
