While the Clock Ticks

The clock ticks across the room --
a steady reminder
that time doesn’t wait
or even hesitate
while I sit here
undecided.

The Word doesn’t change --
a steady reminder
that yesterday is gone
and tomorrow hangs
on decisions I make
today.

I was born into this flesh --
a steady reminder
not to lean on my own understanding,
but to trust the Lord
and His will
with all my heart.

The best I can do
is leave it all in His hands
and let the clock tick away,
while I wait
on direction
from a perfect God.

Whatever those directions,
I pray for an ear to hear
and the strength
to follow through
in pinpoint obedience
to the One who knows me best.

But for this moment,
all I hear is a clock ticking --
a steady reminder
to wait upon the Lord
and the promises
He spoke long ago.

While the clock ticks, what an excellent title. Thank you Joyce for sharing this little gem with us. I love the Ps. that you quoted near the end...Ps. 31:24--Be of good courage, and HE SHALL STRENGTHEN YOUR HEART, ALL YOU WHO HOPE IN THE LORD. I Know what a person of faith that you are and how proud God is of you. What a perfect Scripture to fit my husbands needs and all of our hopes as we wait and hope in Him. I love you, Sharon

Oh Joyce I am SO sorry it was in the picture of that beautiful little tea cup that Scripture was written! But It really hit home for me. Thank you so much for your obedience for sharing your beautiful little poem and that beautiful Scripture! Luv you, Sharon

Psalm 27:14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. Psalm 33:20 We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. We all need to be patient and wait on the Lord, This is a very hard thing to learn. We want to be impulsive and solve problems ourselves, instead of letting the Lord handle the situation. Great poem! I can relate! Love Danette

Treava...This is excellent in every way - both in style of writing and CONTENT! This statement offers pure wisdom: "tomorrow hangs on decisions I make today". Armed with that statement and your desire to trust God for everything, I would say that TOGETHER, you and God will make some pretty powerful and wonderful decisions! Yes, you are waiting... but expectantly, knowing GOD IS AT WORK IN YOUR LIFE. I am reading a book that talks about God's miracles taking time to unfold - but advising us to hold on and focus on knowing God intimately in the process. The miracles will come and on the way we will have a deeper faith. I love you! Peggy

His timing is perfect. His promises for you will come forth. I enjoyed this poem.

Wonderful. Your form is so clean and the message so simple and clear. I love it.

Amen, Treaver. Waiting on the Lord is something our flesh often fights against, yet is one of the most important lessons we need to learn. Knowing that God’s timing is perfect and His ways are higher than ours gives us the ability to wait. I know something of your heart; that you do wait with great expectations. Trish and I join with you as you wait. Our prayers are for God to do that pure and perfect thing He has for you and that He completes your life by giving you the desires of your heart. When that happened, your joys will be beyond human explanation and your life will be filled with the completeness you so longingly seek. Soon…just a little while longer, precious little one.
