The word of the Lord
came to Jeremiah:
Behold,
I am the Lord
the God of all flesh;
is anything too hard
for Me?
[Jeremiah 32:26-27]

"I'm sorry, Lord."
"Yes, child?"
"I can't help it, Lord.
It's just the way it is.
That's it."
"WHAT is it, child."
"This almost total lack
of assurance in You.
Why do I feel this way?
How come everybody else
has such CONFIDENCE
in You?"
[PATIENT SILENCE.]
"I just don't get it."
[MORE PATIENT SILENCE.]
"How COME?
I mean, where did You
go wrong with ME?"
"It is a mystery, My child."
"HEY, Lord!
I'm not KIDDING!
This is SERIOUS!
How come all these other
people have, like, ALL
this CONFIDENCE in You?
What IS it about THEM?"
"Me."
"Yeah. But, I've been
hearin' about You, like,
FOREVER, Lord,
and....."
"Forever......., My precious?"
"Well. At least for the
past 51 years, or so.
And, that includes those
6 torturous years at Hebrew school.
Not to mention, the 5 years of
piano lessons.
(thoughtful silence)
Then, that was golf class I took at
Penn State. Remember that
golf teacher who screamed at
me in front of the whole class,
just 'cuz I kept digging up
the LAWN? Boy, was HE
a jackass."
"Don't cuss, child."
"That's not CUSSING, Lord!
Not in AMERICA!"
[PATIENT SILENCE.]
(more thoughtfulness)
"Shouldn't that be ENOUGH?"
"No, My precious."
"Well, it's past the half-century
mark, Lord. I mean, if 'Ya
haven't done somethin', by
NOW......"
"Haven't I, My child?"
"Well; I guess there was
the moon-walk. I guess
that was somethin'.
(thoughtful silence)
Then, there was that time
I rescued Ginger from
the gas station.
But, to honest, that was
about it, Lord."
[SOLEMN NOD.]
"'Ya know what they used
ta' say, in the '80's, Lord."
"Which 80's, My precious?"
"The NINETEEN 80's!
Oh, come ON!
Remember what they SAID?"
"They said a lot of things, My child."
(laugh!)
"No, Lord!
They said:
'If you don't use it,
'ya lose it!'
Remember that, Lord?"
"Ah. I see."
"See what I MEAN, Lord?"
[NOD.]
"And, this is pertaining to WHOM?"
"Well........I'm sorry, Lord.
Maybe......maybe, You should
be doing more MIRACLES,
'Ya KNOW? Maybe, if
You don't do a certain
AMOUNT, like, within
a specified period of time,
then......"
"Read My Word, child."
"I don't think there's
anything about the 1980's
in there, Lord.
(pause)
Okay! Okay:
In the beginning
God created
the heavens
and the earth.
[Genesis 1:1]
Yeah. But, that was a long
time ago, Lord. What have
You done LATELY?"
[LAUGH!]
"Created you, My precious.
Created you."

Let there be light;
And,
there was light.
