Zoë Life

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

What is everlasting life? Every man born of woman has everlasting life, it is just a matter of where he will spend it, even those who go to hell have everlasting life, so what exactly is Jesus referring to…

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

When Jesus said this, he wasn’t talking to dead people; he was talking to people who had life or who were alive, they were listening to him… so what was Jesus talking about?

There are 5 words translated as life in the greek new testament…

ψυχή 5594, 1 time

a) the breath of life
b) the vital force which animates the body and shows itself in breathing, a living being, a living soul, the life or personality of the soul. Mind will and emotions.

βίος 979, 11 times

1) life, the period or course of life, duration of life or life span

ἀγωγή 71, 1 time

a) a conducting, training, education, discipline
b) the life led, way or course of life the way you conduct your life or life style

ἀναστροφή 391, 13 times

1) manner of life, behaviour,

ζωή 2222, 134 times

1) life, life in the absolute sense, life as God has it…

W.E. Vine zoe (Eng., "zoo," "zoology") is used in the NT "of life as a principle, life in the absolute sense, life as God has it, that which the Father has in Himself, and which He gave to the Incarnate Son to have in Himself, John 5:26, and which the Son manifested in the world, 1 John 1:2.

This word Zoe does not refer to duration of life but rather quality of life, life as God has it, complete in itself, unaffected and unaltered by circumstances.

John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. W.E. Vine phos to give light, light as seen by the eye, and, metaphorically, as reaching the mind, to make to appear, evident or understanding, in this case illumination for the mind… revelation…
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Light requires an organ adapted for its reception Matt. 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

Where the eye is absent, or where it has become impaired from any cause, light is useless. Man, naturally, is incapable of receiving spiritual light inasmuch as he lacks the capacity for spiritual things, 1_Cor_2:14. Hence believers are called 'sons of light,' Luke_16:8, not merely because they have received a revelation from God, but because in the New Birth they have received the spiritual capacity for it.

Again Jesus said… John 10:10 I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

But in order for us to walk in this life we need a revelation, the life is already ours but we need a revelation of what it is and how to walk in it… or we need the light to illuminate it to us…

Some people think it strange that God would give us life as he has it… Right from the beginning man had this life…

Gen. 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul or God breathed life into the soul…

What kind of Life do you think God breathed into Adam, God could not give him something he didn’t have so God gave him a portion of God’s life…

Gen 1:24 everything after it’s own kind… cattle produced… elephants produced…

V26 God made man in his own image after his own likeness or God produced…

God had always intended for man to have this life but man lost it at the fall… Gen. 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

There are two words die in that verse, the word die is muth, the first muth is translated for some reason as surely and the second muth is translated die… or it should read you will die die…

Some translations read in dying thou shalt die, but I believe it is more than that, in the instant that Adam and Eve ate from the tree they died spiritually or the Zoe life of God that flowed through their veins died and they no longer had life flowing through their veins but death which worked it’s way out until physical death occurred… When the life stopped, death and decay began…

Man is a three part being spirit, soul and body.

1Thes 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Gen 1:26, 27 God gave man dominion over all the earth; man in effect was the ruler over all the earth. Adam was also the master copy of a new race. The law of Genesis states that all things that have seed in them produce after their own kind. (Gen 1:12&21-25)

There are three deaths we must undergo:

1. Spiritual death, which happened that day and means that our spirit is separated from God, or no longer in fellowship with God. Notice he didn’t cease to exist.
2. Physical death, which is when our spirit is separated from our body, or there is no longer communication between our spirit and our body. But we don’t cease to exist.
3. Eternal death, which follows immediately after physical death and means that our spirit is separated from God for all eternity. We still don’t cease to exist but will spend all eternity separated from God in eternal punishment. 2 Th. 1:9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

When Adam and Eve sinned, the first thing that happened was the life of God was cut off, there was no longer the life of God flowing through their bodies and the end result was the absence of everything that life produced…

For example, when you drink water, it gives life to your body, when you stop drinking water your body starts to run down, you will not die in the first day, you will not even look different in the first day but after 8-10 days you will die…

1. Sin is the absence of righteousness or right standing with God.
2. Sickness is the absence of health.
3. Poverty is the absence of abundance.
4. Death is the absence of life.

Now lets look at the opposite of that, lets look at what happens when we get Zoe life…

Rom. 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the (your) spirit is life because of righteousness.

Rom. 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken (zopoieo, make alive) your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Because we are a triune being, spirit, soul and body so our redemption is three fold. We were saved in our spirit when we accepted Christ as Saviour… Eph 1:13-14 our spirit was sealed…

James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. Present tense our soul is being saved by the word of God or it is being set free for everything that binds us…

Rom. 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

2Cor. 1:10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

So we understand that God’s will for man since the beginning was that man would walk in this Zoe life, that man would walk in all the benefits of Zoe life, man lost them at the fall but Jesus Christ came to give us back that Zoe life with all it’s benefits…

Let’s talk about benefits for a minute, this morning we talked about Ps 103, the divine benefits package, these OT believers had all these benefits and yet they didn’t have Zoe life, they were not born again, they were not sons of God, how much more benefits should we have, how much more benefits should we be walking in who now have the Zoe life of God flowing through our veins…

But there is something missing, there is something lacking, it is an understanding of who we are and what we have in Christ because of this Zoe life, if we are going to change, if we are going to walk in Zoe life, it must begin with our understanding, it must begin with getting a revelation of who we are and what has happened to us…

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The word here is not everlasting but eternal, maybe this is where some of the wrong thinking comes from, we tend to think of salvation as everlasting life or life that goes on for ever while in fact it is eternal life or something of eternity has been birthed in our hearts that causes us to have an eternal quality of life…

“Eternal…draws attention to the quality of that life, not its duration…Translators should be careful to avoid expressions, which mean no more than a timeless continuation of life after
death.” – The Translator’s New Testament Notes

“Eternal life is life in the absolute sense, life as God has it, that which the Father has in Himself… Eternal life is the present actual possession of the believer because of his relationship with Christ.” Vines Complete Expository Dictionary

The body of Christ, at large, has been majoring on minors! We have majored on duration of life, manner of life and conduct of life. Yet, only a few scriptures out of one hundred and seventy “life” scriptures mean “manner or conduct of life”. So we have majored on less than a handful. While, roughly seventy-five percent of all “life” scriptures in the New
Testament 125 scriptures out of 170 are derived from the Greek word “ZOE”. Why aren’t we majoring on ZOE?

“ZOE” means “the life of the Eternal: The life of God!” In 2 Peter 1:4, eternal life is called the divine nature. ZOE-life is the life and nature of God. Simply put, ZOE is what makes God, God. It is God’s DNA: When man receives the life of God it makes him a Christian (a Christ-man). By definition a Christian is one manifesting the qualities and spirit of Jesus, one Christlike or just like Christ. ZOE not only makes God, God, it is what also also makes a Christian, a Christian. It brings the qualities and attributes of God into the believer. ZOE does not make the believer God but it gives us the divine nature flowing through our veins…

Rom. 5:17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

Hello brother. It was refreshing to see that you also have had revelation on this eternal life. It was a good & accurate presentation of truth but I must mention a couple of things. One, is it is important to note that Adam never had this eternal life from the start as it was merely offered to Him in & as the tree of life. Once he chose the other tree access to this life (as it was fully presented in the garden) was removed . From that point onward all men were given the same choice of the two trees whereas the tree of life now was to be had by way of another arrangement being through the cross of Christ. Tjis new arrangement is referred to as the economy of God or the dispensing of God into our person via the spirit in which He mingles himself with us. What a glorious thing. However, the other important thing I would mention that was unfortunately left out was that this zoe life does not spread or grow within us as if on auto pilot, it requires an active cooperatio of sorts on our part which Jesus referred to as the taking up of our Christ & the dying to self in our "following" Him. You made brief mention of the eye being the entrance of light but it should be further explained that their are contamenants which block that flow of light which are many. These contamenants are things which the cross of Christ must take out of the way or filter out so that we may be fully illumined. These include the old man, the world, Satan & sin which is within us, the flesh, & even the soul-life which Jesus said we must lose. We do not cease to have a soul but it must go to the cross to experience death so as to remove it's improper function & it's attachment to the world, flesh & so on. When it comes out of death through resurrection it takes on a new function & purpose as it were. For more on this subject you may reference my writings, especially the one on What is eternal life. To you brother & all who read this may God enlighten your understanding as to this wonderful new life.
