10 Better is one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
the LORD bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold
from those whose walk is blameless.
12 O LORD Almighty,
blessed is the man who trusts in you.
There are things that occur in our life that we never forget and that make us who we are…One of those events for me occurred in June of 2006 and was further confirmed in 2007…It is a true story of a meeting I had with a man who became “My Favorite Greeter At Walmart”…This man is Aaron Walker…He is a very unique person who is a noted greeter at Walmart in Greenwood, South Carolina…I have been shopping at Walmart in Greenwood for many years now…I can remember being greeted by Aaron and often hearing the voice of Aaron when I would go there…He dresses neatly and wears a hat; but most of all, he wears the smile of one redeemed by our Lord and exudes a spirit of generosity and joy…
In 2006, I wrote a poem for Aaron, framed it, and took it to him…Since my gift truly lies in my meeting people and picking up on their spirit, I often write about those I meet like Aaron…Aaron was very kind and receptive when I took him the poem…I am sure that he was surprised to receive a poem from this poet…
It was a great joy of mine to take it to him…Later, he was working the day when I was fortunate enough to have a book-signing in this particular store…My writing the poem for him occurred in June, and the book-signing occurred in August 2006…
Then just recently I had another book-signing in this same Walmart at the invitation of of Randy Worthy, the store manager…At the time I thought I would ask Randy about having a signing, he was very kind to say that it would be fine if I would like to have one…When he said yes to my request, I thought that I should go promptly and schedule the signing…So, I dressed and drove to Walmart to see Randy who did not even know I was coming…When I arrived there, I saw Aaron, "my favorite greeter at Walmart"; and I told him why I had come…Aaron then said that Randy was busy in a meeting with all the department managers and that they were touring the store in the meeting…I said that I would wait, and Aaron said no and that he would take me to Randy to see him…I was thinking to myself that this would not be a good idea because I would be interrupting Randy’s meeting, but Aaron thought differently…We then proceeded to walk to the back of the store to see Randy, and I walked behind Aaron because I was certainly unsure how well I would be received by Randy since he was in a meeting, this is Christmas season, and he is very busy…But on I went with Aaron…When we saw Randy with the managers, Aaron told Randy that I needed to speak with him; and Randy interrupted his meeting to speak with me and set up a time for the signing…I am sure that the time to set this did not take over 5-10 minutes…It is amazing to me how quickly God can get something done and how He goes about getting things done…I am reminded in this event as the “door-keeper” of heaven taking me to the king…
