So just who was Judas Iscariot anyway? Well if you believe the Bible he is the prophesized man who would betray our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ. On the other hand, if you are a so-called Christian heretic who believes the Gnostic gospels are true, then Judas is a hero who conspired with Jesus to give him up to authorities so he can be crucified in order to free the Christ (spirit being) from the merely human host Jesus.
I pray that NO born again believer who trusts that the Bible IS the inspired Word of God is gullible enough to fall for such heretical garbage like this! You see, in the world of Gnosticism Christ is a spirit being separate from the only human man Jesus, who served as merely host to Christ. Here is the truth: the word Christ simply means "the Anointed One," which is a title for Jesus, just like Son of man, the Word, the Lamb of God, the Saviour are all titles for Jesus. Jesus IS the Christ, NOT two separate beings in one.
Look at John 13:21-30. Here we find Jesus foretelling who will betray him to the chief priests and religious leaders. Now look at Luke 22:22 where Jesus says this, "And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: BUT WOE UNTO THAT MAN BY WHOM HE IS BETRAYED!"
Now look at Mark 14:10-11:
"And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them. And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him."
Now look at Luke 22:1-6. Verse 3 says this, "Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve."
Judas was a willing servant of Satan in betraying Jesus. In John 13:2, we read, "And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him."
There is verse after verse to show that Judas sought to willingly betray our Lord, that there was no collusion between them. The Gospel of Judas turns him into a hero. God's Word says he was a thief, that he accepted blood money as payment to betray Jesus, he then felt sorry about doing it afterward, saying, "I have SINNED in that I have betrayed the innocent blood." Then on top of all that, if Judas and Jesus conspired together, why on earth would he do this, "...he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, AND WENT AND HANGED HIMSELF." (Matthew 27:5)
That's right folks, Judas admitted that he had sinned against innocent blood and when he tried to return the 30 pieces of silver to the chief priests, who refused the money, then went and killed himself and is now in hell.
The Gnostic Gospel of Judas says that Judas would "exceed" the other disciples if he accomplished his task. This is heresy! All the Apostles, the 11 remaining men had the same knowledge of Jesus. Finally it boils down to this: do you believe the Bible or this heretical, blasphemous trash that was written several hundred years AFTER Jesus was here? Well, which is it?
