Ever heard of Christian Psychology? No, well you have now!
It has actually been around for some time. It incorporates Christian elements and secular psychological mumbo jumbo. Dr. James Dobson is a Christian Psychologist and founder of Focus on the Family. Among the many doctorates he holds one is from the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio (a Catholic university). Since when should Christians attend schools of unbelievers?
See this web site for complete details on him:
Consider this quote from the great J. Vernon McGee:
"So-called Christians psychology is secular psychology clothed in pious platitudes and religious rhetoric."
The following are some great sites you should look at to investigate this issue further:
Let's look at what God says about human wisdom and godly wisdom.
"Blessed IS the man that walketh NOT in the counsel of the ungodly." (Psalm 1:1)
Here is Job's statement to God in his submission to the LORD in Job 42:3, "Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge?"
Here is Paul's command to the Colossian church in Colossians 2:8, "BEWARE lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and NOT after Christ."
Did you know that Jesus is called our Wonderful Counselor? No, check out Isaiah 9:6 (which is a prophetic verse relating to Jesus), "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
The Holy Ghost is our Comforter. Just look at John 14:16:
"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you ANOTHER Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever."
When the Holy Spirit teaches you God's Word, you become wise unto the Lord and have NO need of secular counseling from some head shrinker who denies any existence of sin, redemption, and God.
If you are a born again believer and going through some crisis, turn to the Word of God for counsel, NOT an unsaved, godless psychiatrist or psychologist. We are commanded to have the mind of Christ!
Going to shrinks and getting doped up on medical drugs will never solve your problem! There is now even a Christianized version of Yoga coined as Christian Yoga that is being peddled in Christian bookstores. How sad! God's Word is the only thing that will give our souls rest through Jesus.
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)
If you want a sound mind, the Word of God, who directs us to Jesus Christ will do it.
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7)
Christian psychology minimizes the gospel of Christ! Secular psychology denies it completely! And psychiatry always boils things down to the core of the person's problems being the mother! Everything comes down to the mother as the root of the problem. "Well my mother didn't love me enough," the person might say. Or the shrink will find a way to put blame on the mother and or father! Invariably it is never the person's fault for his or her problems.
But sin is the problem for mankind and the blood of Jesus Christ is the answer...period!
Rely on the Bible for the answers to your difficulties in life believers and rest in Jesus Christ, by all means!
