It was just a normal day
Shopping to do and dates to play
Sneak in a hair cut before a doctor appointment
Bake Sale after school
Soccer, Piano and lessons at the pool
It was just like any other day
With errands to do she went on her way
Just a normal office visit
Why is the room filled with silence?
The bottom just dropped out
No voice to scream, no voice to shout
A tear fell from heaven as she called up her husband
And uttered the words “it's cancer”
Knowing that her kids would see
Their mother become very weak
And while getting the treatments…
Her room would be filled with silence…
No fighting over a doll, no playing with the doors
No chasing the dog on a freshly mopped floor
No spilled milk, No mommy, kiss it
Just a nurse saying this will only hurt a bit
She went to her car, cried and talked to God
She looked at her watch, dried off her tears
And headed to school with two dozen cupcakes
No lessons today
They’re gonna go home and play
Funny Pancakes for dinner
It won’t long until they know
Mommy won’t be staying home
When they see her she will not look like herself
But the Doctors will make her better
Mommy I have a hug, can I give it to you
Where is your owie, I have kisses too
Mommy I’ll make you soup, and toast if you like
Mommy please stay, who will watch me ride my bike
I asked God to make you all better
Mommy please don’t go, I’ll feel all alone
Mommy, I’m afraid why does it have to be this way
With tears in her eyes, she hugged her kids and said
Everything would be alright, tonight you can sleep in my bed
When the kids fell asleep, her husband started to cry
He held his wife, shook his head and softly muttered “why?”
She said to him, you take care of the kids, I’ll get myself better
In the hospital room
Filled with flowers and balloons
The kids come after school
She helps them with their homework
Hospital food for dinner, every single night
Her husband takes them home, and they sleep by his side
And he cries, and he talks to God and begs Him to heal her
It was just a normal day
Shopping to do and dates to play
Sneak in a hair cut before a doctor appointment
Bake Sale after school
Soccer, Piano and lessons at the pool
She looks at her life
Now in a different light
Her marriage is now stronger, than ever before
Her kids have their mommy back at home
She plays silly games and doesn’t talk on the phone
She wants to be a better mother
She loves those kids like only One Other
And she knew He still had a purpose for her life
In her role as Daughter, Mother and Wife
Things can change so fast, in the blink of an eye
What if today, was your finally good bye?
What would you do different?
What would stay the same?
It was just a normal day
Shopping to do and dates to play
Sneak in a hair cut before a doctor appointment
Bake Sale after school
Soccer, Piano and lessons at the pool
