As an enthusiastic computer programmer, it stands to reason that I am bound to wonder how far are we human beings programmed. From looking at the world of nature we can easily see that animals are programmed. What does a spider do? Does he build a nest in a tree? No; he builds a web. Try as you may you cannot get him to do anything else. It’s in his DNA. Who or what programmed its DNA? Nature! You must be joking. Can nature give us anything it does not itself have? Does nature have compassion? You can bet your sweet life that nature, the most vicious of the elements does not contain one iota of compassion.
Try and stop the molten lava from flowing over that new born baby! It will laugh in your stupid face while you watch the baby liquefy. Not a pretty sight … but that’s nature.
The scriptures tell me that I was chosen before the foundation of the world; I have always understood this to mean ‘before the creation of the universe.’ On the assumption that this is not an illegitimate extension, then I and all the others who were chosen were chosen in Eternity; and consequently it is utterly impossible for anyone to be chosen to be saved in Time, meaning, during the course of Time.
We now touch on a sensitive point, assuming there is nothing sensitive already in the above - and if you think there is I invite the fruits of your biblical studies to either correct or admonish me. As I had no schooling I daresay you will pardon my endeavours to comply with the text ‘Come, let us reason together.’
I think it necessary to point out that I am socratic by nature which is confirmed by the fact that I have a bulbous nose. But I digress; and, yes, I WILL get on with it (in the next section.)
