SONG OF EDEN

SAD SONG OF EDEN

In purity slept us in Eden...
Till woken sinfully in a den
Driven from light ….
To the reality of our plight

A sword flamed in the wilderness…
Our soul swoon under the curse
So sang we in sadness…
Death is upon us.

God could not repent...
…by reason of the serpent
Eden turned foe
Mother Earth woe!

Behold the Kingdom is taken…
The scepter lost…
The Holy crown stolen...
Our glory to dust!

We sat lone and bereaved
Our hearts heavy and grieved
Oh God! How long…
Sing us this sad song?

At the cool of the evening…
God came visiting
Our parents were not chaste…
So they made haste.

Oh! That we had guarded the Garden….
Then the serpent would not into Eden
Oh! That Eve ate not the forbidden…
Then would us not this sad song of Eden!
