“This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
A writer once wrote, “ Each day comes bearing its own gifts. Untie the ribbons.”
Indeed, if we think of everyday as a gift waiting to be unwrapped, we can not help but be excited about it. We can rejoice with the psalmist knowing that the Giver of gifts give us 24 hours a day , and it’s up to us how we use every second, each moment , and each opportunity.
I like watching children’s faces as they open their holiday presents. The twinkling in their eyes, the swift movement of their little fingers as they joyfully unwrapped their gifts are such a delightful sight. Even us, grown ups are thrilled to open gifts, and no matter what we get, we are usually thankful knowing we are remembered, that we are loved, that we are special.
Imagine getting up every morning knowing there is a gift from Heaven waiting to be unwrapped. There’s that love shining through the rays of the sun peeking through our windows, there’s that enchanting music as God put the song in our hearts to give us inspiration throughout the day. Visualize His Mighty hands gently tying the ribbons through the majestic gifts of nature- wild flowers at the wayside, and birds humming sweetly; the peace He brings in our hearts as we gaze at the blue skies above, and then at the end of the day, a marvelous sunset with its awesome hues that only a Master Painter can paint.
How do you respond to the Giver of Gifts? Is it a sigh of relief that you have fresh air to breath, roof under your head, and bounty on your table? Do you thank Him only for the turkey at Thanksgiving Day, or do you say your grace before you put the food in your mouth before each meal? Do you say “Good Morning Lord” instead of groaning, “Oh Lord! It’s another busy morning?”
I admit there were many mornings or nights ( I work night shifts) that I dragged my feet just to think of the many things I have to do throughout the day or night. I am a Type R personality –“ restless” to do everything yet “regretting” that I can not do them all. But God has reminded me now that I am not created to be a human doing but a human being who needs to slow down, sit and listen to His voice by communing with Him . He wants me to be more like Mary instead of Martha (or a modern Martha Stewart). He wants me to be on my knees praying, instead of my feet running around in circles accomplishing nothing. As I obey His calling and be attentive to His voice, I can show Him my gratitude for His wonderful gift of Today.
Our Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of each new day. Your faithfulness is fresh every morning and your love endures through the night. Thank You for shining a lantern of truth into the recesses of my heart giving me illumination even when darkness sets in. Even trials are gifts of blessings that help me grow in my walk of faith. May I continually reap a bountiful harvest today as I cherish this gift of new day. In Jesus Precious Name, Amen.
AMEN! I was reminded of the first year I moved into this house. I worked soooo hard to get my daisy seeds in the ground. But I didn't get a single bloom that year. Just about the time I decided to be disappointed, I walked outside to find the entire rest of my yard covered in a blanket of bright purple spiderworts. It was so pretty... like a kiss right out of heaven. Yes, every day there are gifts from God just waiting for us to untie the ribbons from them... if only we LOOK. Great writing!! What a treat!
Beautiful anointed article Sis,Gloria!!!Amen,Each Day is a precious Gift from God and our Gift(Offering) to Him is how we use it for His Glory and for Our Eternal Good!
Loved the prayer as well!
God Bless,with Christian Love,
You sound a bit like me. I want to do everything right now, but due to age, my body won't let me get everything accomplished that I would like. I have to say, "Slow me down, Lord" just as you do. Great lesson for us all, Gloria....Happy Thanksgiving from your Canadian friend....Helen
Oh, Gloria...I LOVED THIS! I will never again face morning the same way. I have always been an 'ugh, it's another morning' type person. But, reading this incredible description you presented of how God ties up His gifts of beauty and hope into each new day...well, how can I do anything but rejoice! Thank you, Sis...God gave us a gift, but you made sure we received it! Yes, I too need to be a Mary instead of a Martha and you inspire me there, too. You are ACTING upon what God shows you - and you are an inspiration to all of us! Love, Peggy
My Dearest Gloria, THANK YOU for sharing this glorious article with us. (like your name, smile) It is a tremendous gift and one that we so often take for granted. Thank you for bringing this wonderful thought into focus. I love you, Sharon
