We became conscious of life as grown babies through the care and nurture of parents or guardians and have a life influenced greatly by our background, religious, economic, social or location.
In due time life experiences and ‘experimentation’ give us ideas convictions about life and living. Therefore different people adopt survival strategies and belief systems. Divination, Buddhism, Confucianism, Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Eckankar, Grail, New Age, et al, not to mention free thinkers, agnostics and atheists.
As Christians, a time also came when we move from the realm of religion and a conviction that Jesus is indeed the Way, the Truth and the Life and has true answers to all areas of life and living. As Paul said, there is a predestination to be “conformed to the image” of Christ, so we should trust in Jesus, the hope of glory.
In the Bible, Jehovah God always complained about His children going back to the worship of idols or other self made gods or demon gods like Baal or Ashteroth Poles etc.
God had to prove his power over such gods through his servants through manifestation of superior power or miracles. The Rod of Moses than turned to snake swallowed the three rods of Pharaohs magicians before they declared “This is the finger of God”. God answered Prophet Elijah by fire to show his superiority over the prophets of Baal, and preserved the three Hebrew boys, Shadrach, Meshak, Abednigo and also Daniel against the onslaught of adversaries.
There were other signs, wonders and miracles and natural phenomenon that God used to convince his children and all men that He is the Supreme and sovereign God, yet God has to call even his own people stiff necked, to say nothing of His enemies. Notwithstanding, God’s love has been offered to everybody through Jesus Christ.
God has revealed himself through Jesus, by redeeming and reconciling man to himself so that we can be part of Him and partake in his inheritance. Jesus also manifested these miracles, signs and wonders during His life ministry. Nevertheless, men are still seeking survival strategies rather than embrace Jesus and truly live. Times do change and might try the faith of believers but with patience and endurance, we not only pass the stage of survival of the fittest, which is a basal animal instinct, but we live and ascend to greater glory by being the Light of the world and Salt of the earth or at least having the heart to be.. The Holy Spirit empowers us and the grace of our Lord is made available to live the life eternal through His Word. Believers should therefore encourage themselves in the Lord to walk the walk, talk the talk and run the race. So help us God.
