What's New
So I Stop Here
by Joyce Poet

Author requests article critique

As I climb the steep hill of faith,
the muscles in my legs burning from the effort,
I recall a word not very old to me:

“Take the first step and I will set you
upon the hilltop.”
So I stop here.

I stop
and I breathe

and I believe,
resting in the Lord
and His love
for me.

I don’t know where this hill leads.
But faith renewed,
a refreshing cup,
and I see beyond the highest treetops
a rainbow,
a promise very old to me:

“What good father gives his son a stone when he asks for a fish?”
So I stop here.

I stop
and just sit in my boat,

floating among the fish
in the sea.
I’ll let him come to me.
I'll let The Breath of God
perform His own works.

I don’t need to walk on water.
Not for this one.
I know the Water Walker personally.
And if it is His will,
I will
walk out to Christ alone
upon the waters.
But for this,
for this,

I stop
and wait upon the Lord.

And upon this hill,
I shall but rest beneath the green tree
and wait,

wait for the goodness of my Lord in the land of the living.
And from within the Lighthouse,
(that is my Savior
and me)
I wait to see
the stairway restored
to its natural beauty
and to rest from within
the bedchambers
designed for me.

in God’s own time.

If a thousand years are but a day to Him,
what is forty-one
but a breath?

I do believe I can smell the scent of spices
filtering between the leaves.

Shine, oh Light,
from my upper room,
leaving scents of mountain rain
and promise
to drift across the sea
and lead him
to bank upon the shore
and strong foundation
of which my soul
is grounded,

where he will always be,
and where he will always be
kept alive
and well
by Living Waters...
my fish fresh from the sea.

just perhaps,
the hill I climb
is a stairwell
of faith
and beauty
already restored
and in place.
I am exactly
where I am supposed to be.

So I stop here

and simply
Wherever this hill leads,
God is so very good
to me.

Perhaps this is
what it means
to walk in faith
upon the waters.
Bid me come,
oh Lord.
And keep my eyes
firmly set
upon You.

I stop here,
amazed by what I see
from this hilltop
made so graciously
just for me.

Perhaps I am exactly where I am supposed to be.

Ditto all the other comments- Beautifully written! As I was reading this it brought to mind mind the lyrics of a song that states something about - "When you realize the mountain you have been climbing is really a grain of sand.." I have felt this! Your article is refreshing! Love Danette

Treava, you are such an amazing person. I know that God's timing is perfect and that when it's your time it's going to be so wonderful you won't even believe it. Keep holding onto that faith. God is going to bless your socks off. xoxoxox

Oh I too am looking for the blessings of the Lord in the land of the living. Thank you for sharing this, it is truly beautiful, as are you. I love you, Sharon

Yes, Treava, we do have to stop now and then to take in a breath of fresh air from heaven, whether we are climbing a mountain in our life, or in a valley, or on the plain. I had to today, but had the promise of Rom. 8:28 when I got up this morning. Our dog is very sick. We thought we would have to have him put down. But right now he is at the vet's overnight, on intervenious. He means a lot to us, as he is Hart's constant companion, now especially since Hart lost his leg to the super bug. Our hearts are heavy. ... Thanks Treava, for the lovely message today, and for the note you put on my article. Write me if you want to. My email address is on my profile page. Don't know if you have personal message or not.

Wow, Treava, how I needed this word today. I am near exhausted by all that is going on at this time in my life. Watchmen seldom take time to rest from their duties on the wall, This is a reminder to stop and rest so that God can minister to us and refresh us. Bless you, Little One.

Treava...this is exquisite - both the message and your incredibly beautiful style of writing. Yes, I needed to read this, too. I need to 'stop' and wait upon the Lord and ask Him to open my senses to His Will, to let me feel His peace if I am in the right place, to inspire me and give me strength if I am to move forward - but, above all, to FOCUS on Him, LISTEN to Him and PRAISE HIS NAME in all things. Treava, thank you for this powerful message set in such delicate phrases. What a combination - power and beauty that comes from the Lord! With love, Peggy

As always, this is simply beautiful. So real and so relative to what I feel. You have a Spirit-given gift. You always get into my soul's secret place with the beautiful expressions of your writings. Magnificent! In Christ's Love, Julia

I too smell the mountain rain. I see the light of hope up ahead and hold to the promises that I will see in the land of the living.
