Kathy Owens was driving back home after a church revival, humming the sweet melody of “Amazing Grace” when suddenly, the glare of the sun blinded her vision. In a split second, her new BMW hit a big tree, and before she knew it, she woke up in the nearest hospital, surrounded by all kinds of life-saving tubes attached to her bruised body with fractured bones and damaged nerves.
Her doctor told her husband of 10 years, “ She may not be able to walk again.” For a young mother with 3 young children ages 9, 7 and 5, who are all dependent on their mother for almost everything, this was such a shocking news.
One day, Kathy’s unbeliever friend Susan, visited her and gained enough courage to ask this question, “How are you feeling Kathy? I mean, did you ever question God why this happened to you? You just came from a church revival, and why the world would He let this accident happen to you? “
Kathy blinked her eyes, still groggy from medications but with her usual sweet smile answered, “I praise God because it’s by His grace that He let me live.”
The comfort that God gives Kathy can be used to comfort others. In 2 Corinthians 1:4 it says, “Who comfort us in all our own troubles so that we can comfort those in any troubles with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”
Susan was surprised by Kathy’s response. “But what if you never walk again? “
Knowing she may be paralyzed for the rest of her life, Kathy replied, “ I am depending completely on my Savior. I won’t question His plan. If He decides to heal me, I will be eternally grateful. If it’s His will not to heal me , I assure you he will give me strength and the grace to carry on." “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” (Isaiah 40:29 ).
Kathy didn't realize that on those moments of intense conversation with her friend Susan, she was giving her testimony of faith. Two months after that incident, Susan accepted Jesus in her heart as her Savior. God used Kathy’s inability to walk again to make her friend walk with Jesus.
God may not give us all a clear answer as to why things happen the way they are. Why bad things happened to good people. Physical healing and solutions to our problems may not come the way we wanted them to be, but if we let Him, He will give us a richer and deeper sense of His presence. He will draw close to you that you could possibly imagine. He will give you the GRACE to carry on.
Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank You for reminding us that Your promises are always true. How great is Your faithfulness, how wonderful is Your love, how awesome is Your grace! Thank You Lord for You are our Rock, our Refuge, our Hope. May Your grace abound in us now and forever more. Amen.
I was inspired to write this story after one of my sisters, Remy, had a car accident. I am dedicating this to her because she is such a woman of faith. She inspired me when she said, "The future is uncertain, but I know Who holds the future." Please pray for my sister who incidentally found out from cat scans after the accident that she has a mass on her lung and cyst in her ovary. Please pray for her strength, comfort and healing mercy. Thank you.
Dear Gloria, I'm obviously very behind on my reading! What a time to read this story... now... now that we know Remy's mass in noncancerous. What a wonderful, wonderful God we serve!! He is so very faithful!!
What an absolutely heart-wrenching story, and at the same time, inspirational. Thank you for sharing it so that it could offer all of us encouragement and comfort in our troubles. All of you will be in my prayers.

What a very sad story, sad, that is, to those who don't understand God's ultimate plan for each of our lives. I do pray that your sister will be healed; but if not, God knows the future, and hers is in His hands.... This must have been a hard story to tell. Thanks for sharing.....Helen
Dear Gloria, Once again you inspire us with your wonderful faith and obedience to the Lord! We read your words and feel led to release ourselves to God's care in total trust and assurance that His Grace will be sufficient for us in all circumstances! We continue to pray for your sister as we know she has already embraced God's Love and His plan for her life. May He bless her and bless you for being such a wise servant and wonderful Child of God. Love you, SiS Peggy
