Flying High In the House

Activity : Flying Balloons

The Bottom Line Flying Balloons is extremely fun!

This is a simple activity best for children 5 and up. You need a pack of balloons and an air pump. We use an old bicycle pump.

The goal is to see whose balloon will go highest. Now it would probably be more fun with two air pumps but our family has only the one. If that is your case then take turns using the air pump.

You want to remove any needles from the mouth of the air pump because they will puncture the balloons. Place the mouth of the balloon over the round nozzle of your air pump. Fill the balloon with as much air as you can before letting it go!

Now to avoid littering nature with balloons, we do this inside. It also makes judging distance easier because I know how high the ceiling is in our home. If you do it outside please make every effort to clean up afterwards. You want to collect all the balloons you can so animals don't get them and become hurt.

My daughter loves this game. She does not care if she is playing against me, someone else or by herself. Please note that a child should never play with balloons or air pumps by themselves, especially if they are young.

A side benefit to this game is it makes a good arm workout for children whom want to do the pumping themselves. My daughter uses her hands and arms to operate our old foot pedal bike pump.

Well that is all for now. I got to get back to balloon racing.

Side Note:
I got to thinking after discovering this old article on my computer today --- How high do we fly with God? Are we as child-like as He desires us to be?
