Prayer for a Newborn
She sleeps so peacefully with
Only a flutter of eyelids
Now and then...
The quick breath drawn in
Is sparkling clean
More than anything
Iíve ever seen.
I know, she must have
Trials to make her strong -
Will You give her strength
To meet each one?
Will You give her understanding
That leads her to wisdom?
Will You teach her early
That Name to call
For correct answers?
For her tiny soul
Keep angels stationed
Around her crib.
Make her aware that
Someone is there.
Never, Lord, may her cries
Be in vain.
Hold her close, Lord, and
I will have joy in my heart
Seeing her respond.
I want her love, Lord,
But I want her to love You more.
Begin today Lord, while the clay is not set,
To plant within her tiny heart
For a child, a girl, a woman
In Jesus name,
