[Author's note: 'Neu?' is
Yiddish for "So? Now what?" or
"Can you believe this?"]

....The Lord,
knows the thoughts of man,
that they are but a breath.
[Psalms 94:11]
******************************
"WELL, LORD?"

"What."

"Well? I DID it, but
nothin's CHANGED!"

"What, child."

"This BURDEN I had!
I GAVE it to You;
now WHAT?"

[SILENCE.]

"I don't UNDERSTAND?
I thought once I told YOU,
I was supposed to, 'Ya know,
like, FEEL better,
or somethin'!"

[SILENCE.]

"The Christians say
we're supposed 'ta give all
our burdens to the LORD?"

"Yes, child."

"Well, yeah!
But, I thought that if
we gave You a burden,
then......like, 'Ya know,
You'd DO something
with it!"

[SILENCE.]

"Well? Neu?"

[SILENCE]

"Well, NOW what?"

"Tell Me again, child."

"You mean, my BURDEN?"

[NOD.]

"But, LORD;
I already TOLD You!
Didn't You HEAR it?
Weren't You LISTENING?"

"Yes, child."

"Well, why do I hav'ta
say it, AGAIN?
Isn't once, like, ENOUGH?"

"Sometimes, My precious."

"Well, I didn't feel
good after saying it,
the FIRST time!
Why should I say it,
AGAIN?"

[SILENCE.]

"Neah! I said it ONCE!
That's ENOUGH!"

"I'm still waiting, child."

"For what, NOW?"

"Your biggest burden."

"What's THAT?"

"Your pride, My beloved.
Your pride."
*******************************
And calling to Him a child,
He put him in the midst
of them, and said,
Truly, I say to you,
unless you ....become like children,
you will never enter
the kingdom of heaven.
Whoever humbles himself
like this child,
he is the greatest in the
kingdom of heaven.
[Matthew 18:1-4]
