If there is anything that humans have in common,
it is the bond of our painful problems.
We all have hopes, we all have fears
We have all tasted triumphant times
and the salt of our own tears.
We have climbed these cliffs
and found the pleasure of the pinnacle,
We have all stumbled to tumble
into the valley of the cynical.
Some have suffered abuse and others have been neglected
Some have been abandoned and others have been rejected
Some have been stripped of house and home
Some have lost loved ones and now find themselves alone.
Some now face the gradual failing of health
Some now fight the fading of monetary wealth.
Some sleep without shelter, others moan for a meal
Some wish for water while others hope to be healed.
Some fight for freedom
from the oppression of their foes
Some fight for the right
to own their own clothes.
We all face our own troubles
with tribulations to spare
We all share in the same struggle
We each have burdens to bear.
So let us pray for one another
and care how others fare
Let it not be said of the Saints
that “Love and kindness is rare”.
