Prayers
D. L. Moody to personal intercession. He was inter involved in a dramatic incident that shows how God can touch on intercessor specifically for one event. Moody visited England in 1872 on a kind of sabbatical while his new Church was being built in Chicago. His main purpose was to listen to and team from same of his routine and agreed to minister in a Church in London. The Sunday morning turned out to be a disastrous experience. He confessed afterward that he never had such a hard time precluding in his life. Everything was perfectly dead. The horrible thought to him that he had to preach there again that night. He only went through with it because he had given his word he would do so. Moody said, “The powers of an unseen world seem to have taken upon the audience.” Although, invitation for people to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and was astounded when 500 people stood up. He repented the invitation twice more to attempt to filter out the insincere, but all 500 went to the vestry to pray to receive Christ. A major revival started in that Church and neighborhood that night! D. L. Moody continues: Through intercessors, Dwight L. Moody narrowly avoided the trap of spiritual arrogance and blossomed into the influential giant of the faith, as we now know him. Moody was already a popular preacher. Even Abraham Lincoln has made a point of visiting Moody Sunday School in Chicago. However, something was lacking namely a yielding to full power of the Holy Spirit. After one of the meeting two women approached him and said “Mr. Moody we have been praying for you” Reflecting some apparent spiritual arrogance, Moody replied rather abruptly, “Why don’t you pray for the people” The ladies said quietly, “Because you need the power of the Holy Spirit. Somewhat take, aback moody could only respond, I need the power?” The thought was rather preposterous to a spiritual leader who has been visited by the president of the United States. However, the women had heard the Lord well. They customarily sat in front row of his meetings, deep in prayer as he preached. At first, he was annoyed, but gradually God softened his heart and he began to encourage not only their prayers, but also the formation of prayer groups to beseech God that he would be endue with power. Then one day in New York City, Moody had such an experience of the filling with the Holy Spirit that he admitted he was never able to describe it in words. One of his biographers say, “God seems to have answered in a mighty way the prayers of these two women, for at this time his life changed considerably from that of a young somewhat cocky and proud preacher, to a humble, soft and mellow hearted preacher.” When Moody’s spiritual arrogance diminished, the power of God through faithful intercessors was released in his life and ministry. When God calls members of His family to a certain task or ministry, He provides them with the supernatural glorifying to accomplish it according to the will. For those He has called to the upper step or into the throne room as intercessor, He has provided what I like to call the spiritual gift of intercession. Those with the gift in intercession ordinary pray from two to five hours a day. They rarely let a day go by without praying at least one hour. All Christian have a desire to be close to God. But the honest truth is that for the majority of Christians have the time set abide for prayer is relatively short and the actual feelings of closeness to God during those times is not for the most part, all that we heat the intercessors describing. Intercessors are not just average Christians any more than evangelists or pastors or prophets or teachers are, part of their differences from others is not how many lost souls they lead to Christ, but their intimate relationship with the Father. A prayer brought us very close to God, and fulfills our potential. Openness and obedience are keys to hearing from God. The deep closeness of intercessors to the Father apparently has not change much at least over the past 600 years. An important part of what happens when intercessors spend long periods in very close relationship to god is that they hear directly from Him. At times the instruction God gives are almost as unconventional as when He told Ezekiel to eat the scroll or lie on his left side for 390 days or share his head and beard or burn one-third of the hair in the middle of the city (Ezekiel 4:5). Nevertheless, intercessors anointed for this strategy of silence have developed the discernment to know when it is authentic. Intercession is an ongoing ministry under their gift of intercession. Intercession as “an urging to pray given by the Holy Spirit for situation or circumstances about which you have very little knowledge in the natural. You pray for the prayer requests that are on the heart of God.” The great majority of intercessors are quiet people. The do not like to be up front. Aloneness” is one of the prices intercessors regularly pay. As an intercessors “be prepared to spend some hours alone.”
