It has seemed as though every war would last forever.
WWII seemed like that because my older brother was in it.
It took our nation being united and seeking God's help...to win that war.
The present war seems as though it could last forever. (How we pray that it will NOT)
There IS a war that all of us should be familiar with, that will last all the days of our lives!
This is spiritual war!
Some of Christianity's brightest stars have gone dark...
due to satan winning the warfare.
If you have not met satan lately, you may be going the same direction as he.
Let's examine this warfare and see our enemies.....but also our allies in the fight.
THE WARRIORS OF THE WARFARE:
Our enemies in the warfare are:
1) Satan (I Peter 5:6-11) is a destructive force (John 10:10) but is a defeated foe...
who won't give up! (Col. 2:15)
2) Demons (Eph. 6:10-13)
THE ALLIES OF THE WARFARE:
1) God the Father wants the best for us!
2) God the Son died to provide the best for us!
3) God the Holy Spirit is all powerful in us!
4) Angels (II Kings 6:17 and Joshua 5:14)
5) Fellow Saints (Hebrews 12:1-2)
We are in a great partnership..from Above and from Without.
GOD'S MAJOR PLAN FOR DEALING WITH THE DEVIL AND DEMONS:
1) The Lordship of Christ in every area of our lives!
2) The Priesthood of Believers.
Each Believer is a Priest and with this goes great privileges and great responsibilities!
Amy Carmichael (1867-1951) was a single missionary who served 55 yrs. in India without a furlough, put it this way:
'Give me the love that leads the way...
The Faith that none can dismay...
The Hope no disappointment tire...
The Passion that will burn like fire.
Let me not sink to be a clod...
Make me Thy fuel, Flame of God.'
3) The Sufficiency of Christ:
If Jesus is Lord and you are living as a priest, the sufficiency of Christ is your's.
Jesus comes in and does battle for you! "The battle is not your's, it is the Lord's"
(II Chronicles 20:15)
However if we are always on His side, we should be ready and willing for battle.
THE WARDROBE NECESSARY FOR THE WARFARE: (Eph. 6:14-18)
1) The Girdle of Truth: (your integrity and sincerity)
Back your words up with your life! Say what you mean and mean what you say!
2) The Breastplate of Righteousness: (in right standing with God)
We are declared 'righteous' at conversion...
but it takes 'day by day growth' to be Christ-like.
3) The Footwear of the Gospel:
This is very important...for in the Army, you must always be ready to move for God...
and for Victory.
My brother Bryce was in the Artillery in WWII and was a part of The Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. He said that many nights they slept with their boots on in order to be ready at a moment's notice.
Likewise, we must always be ready for spiritual warfare!!
Also, II Cor. 5:7 tells us to 'walk by faith and not by sight'.
4) The Shield of Faith:
I like these two acrostics:
5) The Helmet of Salvation:
This guards the mind....but is a special target of satan!
Philippians 2:5-11 tells us that we MUST have the mind of Christ!
II Corinthians 4:16 emphasizes: 'For the cause of Christ, we faint not...
but though our outward person perish, yet the inward person is renewed day by day'.
The Armor in it's totality is none other than Jesus Christ. Romans 13:14 (NIV)
"Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ...
and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature".
THE WEAPONS IN THE WARFARE:
II Corinthians 10:4: "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.
On the contrary, they have Divine Power to demolish strongholds." (NIV)
Isaiah 54:17: "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment, thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord".
1) The Blood of Jesus for our sins: (I John 1:6-10 and Rev. 12:11)
Don't let sins pile up!
You committed them 'one at a time'...so confess them' one at a time'.
There is truly 'power in the blood' for it can cleanse us from all sins!
2) The Cross of Jesus for our flesh: (Galations 2:20)
"I am crucified with Christ nevertheless, I live...yet not I but Christ lives in me and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith of the Son of God Who loved me and gave Himself for me."
3) The Name of Jesus can be a weapon against satan and his demons...
as they can not stand the name of Jesus!! (Phil. 2:9-10)
4) The Faith of Jesus for our shield.
Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us that this faith is a gift and needs to be opened and used.
Let us 'wake up' to winning this spiritual warfare!
We CAN do this through:
Regular private and public worship....
Knowing (and claiming) the Promises of God.
After we posted the article 'Saved and Sure' last month, we rec'd an e-mail from the wife of one of our Chaplains in Iraq.
Susan said that she was going to send that article to her husband, as she was certain that he would want to share it with his troops. She said that it had been extremely difficult for Scott in recent days as there had been several casualties within his group.
Scott and other Chaplains are trying to help encourage our troops as they face Physical Warfare every day. At the same time, they try to prepare the men and women as they face 'Spiritual Warfare' in their individual lives.
We can NOT default on our duty to lift our troops up in prayer....
not only for their physical safety but for the 'saving of their souls'.
Scott told Susan, "That message is just what I need for my troops!"
How we praise God for giving us this area of ministry at this time in our lives!
To think that though we're a bit homebound now, God is helping us to continue to reach out and hopefully help others!!! Thank you Lord!!
Please remember that the enemy can not change your Eternal destiny...
but he can wreak havoc in the 'here and now'.
