Wrong Generation
The rumbling under my feet made it’s way up into my heart. I’d never been in one, and now the darkness around made me question my decision. If I’d said no, I wouldn’t be here, surrounded by a sound so loud my ears spun. The band’s name, Queen I think. (50 words)

Accidental Dental
Three sets of dentures shone at me from the tray. Three gaping mouths waited in their beds. My problem, which went with who. My solution. Not a pleasant one, but as long as I kept talking as I did the fitting, they didn’t seem to notice. (50 words)

Wedding Ring Blues
She held the gumball ring on her finger, turning it every which way to catch the light.
“I hope I always feel this way,” she took his hand into her own and squeezed it tight.
“Tomorrow we wed,” she whispered. “Now where’s the real ring?” squeezing tighter. (47)

Final Goodbye
The train whistle sounded off in the distance. She picked up her bag, ready to board it. She left the note on the table. He’d see it in the morning. And then it would be much too late. She’d be far far away. Like he’d been all these years. (49)

A Royal Treat
5 cups of flour, one cup of sugar, and don’t forget the butter, and voila, you have a cake fit for a queen.
“Yes,” she said to herself, “but one I must not eat, for fear the kingdom will expand too much. Oh, maybe just a taste.” (47)

Pretty good stuff. #5 says it all. On my way to make cookies, maybe a cake. Thanx for sharing, and welcome to the challenge.

These are fun. Accidental Dental reminds me of a true incident when I was still a practicing nurse. No, I didn't do it, the resident did it herself. Good work.

the final goodbye had a interesting poignancy. Touching.

Wow! These are all great! I went back to pick a favorite but it's too difficult. I loved them all.
Cynthia Hinkle 25 Sep 2007
Wonder if #2 could be expanded for a Reader's Digest submit? Also thought the recipe story was great, a "crown jewel." LOL
Janice Cartwright 25 Sep 2007
Even though sad, "Final Goodbye" was my favorite. Train whistles in the distance put me out like Lottie's eye. :)(That's an expression from away back yonder that means mesmerizing or soothing.)
Joanne Sher  25 Sep 2007
These are all fun - though "accidental dental" is my favorite (don't know why! LOL)
Allison Egley  25 Sep 2007
Hehe Very good. I liked 2 and 5 best. But I must say, I feel rather sorry for those who were getting the teeth...

#4 made me think, Wow.
