End First
Erica’s a lefty and she always was sort of backwards. -- She even tried to be born bum first. Mother was in labor. The obstetrician sat beside her, reading his Bible. He told Mother to pray.

Somehow, they got Erica turned around. For some reason God wanted her to live.

First Date
“I’ll have the kid’s mac and cheese and a side of carrots, plain, no margarine.” Kara gave the waiter her chef card: I’m allergic to sesame, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, cottonseed, flaxseed, garlic, and potatoes...

“Same for me,” ordered Ben. “And maybe I’ll get a kiss goodnight.”

Kara’s heart melted.

Always There
The kids squirmed, talked, and giggled. -- And completely wore out their mother. Janie’s shoulders slumped. Why can’t they just sit still and be quiet in church?

Someone touched Janie’s shoulder. She knew it wasn’t one of the people around her.

She felt better, at peace.

And the kids behaved.

Dangling
“Ahhhhhh!” cried Gloria as she fell off the rock face.

Marybeth heard the fear in Gloria’s voice. She felt Gloria’s weight on the belay rope around her back.

Gloria dangled there, enjoying it!

…even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. Psalm 139:10

Birthstone (Snap-Short Devo)
Little Julianne mentioned the “birthstone.”

“No honey, it’s a gravestone.”

Mama smiled. She liked “birthstone” better.

A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth. Ecclesiastes 7:1 (NIV)

God, please help us always see the glad beyond the sad.

VERY delightful! Love the birthstone - out of the mouth of babes.
Janice Cartwright 25 Sep 2007
Birthstone/gravestone is my favorite. Really hard to choose, though.
Marita Vandertogt 25 Sep 2007
Loved the birthstone/gravestone too - and yes, you have a real flair for mini devotionals.
Allison Egley  25 Sep 2007
These were all good. 4 was especially relevant to me, because my brothers both used to rock climb, and even I've done it a few times at indoor gyms and in my own back yard. lol
Seema Bagai  24 Sep 2007
The last one is perfect. You could write a whole series of 50 word devotionals.
Pat Guy  24 Sep 2007
These are GREAT Molina! I understood the allergy one and I loved the birthstone one, and the squirmy one ... I loved them all. Kudos!
Laurie Walker 24 Sep 2007
I've been in the Always There situation more times than I can count. I love the way you captured them.
Joanne Sher  24 Sep 2007
I truly love ALL of these. I'd have to say this is my favorite batch so far. Can't even pick a fave.
Verna Cole Mitchell  24 Sep 2007
"Always There" was my favorite of these delightful snapshorts. You even managed some dialect. Wow!
Linda Roth 24 Sep 2007
Molina, these are beautiful! I liked them all. “First Date” reminded me of my husband. What a man! “Birthstone” demonstrates a truth that is hard for us to comprehend, but so important!
Jan Ackerson  23 Sep 2007
Oooh, very good! I really like "first date" -- your male MC definitely won my heart, too.
Rachel Burkum 23 Sep 2007
Great read. :) I think my favorite was the last one - loved the deepness in so few words.
Betty Castleberry 23 Sep 2007
