He shall sit as a REFINER and a PURIFIER of silver… (Malachi 3.3)
When you study the process of refining Silver or Gold, you will know that it is not all that easy. The Refiner has to make a hot fire with coal. When the fire is very hot, then the refiner will hold the silver on the fire and meticulously monitors it. He will not leave it and go out least it got spoilt. So he is always there monitoring it until it is thoroughly refined and he brings it out of the fire.
We are all vessels in the household of God. It is left for us to avail ourselves as vessels of honour unto use as either vessel of Gold, Silver, Bronze or Wood. And as a vessel we must be refined before we will be fit to be used. The good news is that our refiner is there with us. He will not leave us alone in the process and he will not allow us to be spoilt in the process.
That is why in Isaiah 43:2 he assures us “when you pass through deep waters, I will be with you; your troubles will not overwhelm you. When you pass through fire, you will not be burnt; the hard trials that come will not hurt you”.
Drawing consolation from these words, let us not be discouraged when we are passing through any ugly unexpected experience because our refiner, savior and redeemer is always there with us to pull us up when we are sinking like Peter. We should rejoice because events like these always draw us closer to God. It makes us to know that indeed God is very near to us.
