Short Dramas and Plays
NARRATOR
Jesus sent out 70 disciples two by two to minister to the people, where He Himself was about to go.
JESUS
The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest
NARRATOR
The 70 disciples returned rejoicing and Jesus rejoiced with them.
JESUS
(Hands raised, facing the platform, rejoicing)
I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
(turns toward the audience, motioning to everyone with his hands)
Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see; for I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and have not seen it, and to hear what you hear, and have not heard it.
NARRATOR
And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, sarcastically saying...
LEVI THE CERTAIN LAWYER
Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
JESUS
What is written in the law? What is your reading of it
LEVI THE CERTAIN LAWYER
‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, with all your strength,
and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’
JESUS
You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.
NARRATOR
But Levi the Certain Lawyer, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus...
LEVI THE CERTAIN LAWYER
And who is my neighbor?
JESUS
A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho...
NARRATOR
Richard is vacationing in the Holy Land with his family. It is the first
real vacation they've had in many years, outside of the United States.
On this particular day, Richard is attending a prophecy conference in
Jerusalem; the rest of his family decided to go to Jericho on a Bus Tour.
Spotlight on Richard.
RICHARD THE CERTAIN MAN
(has a cell phone in his hands, and it isn't working. He hits it.)
I can't stand these things!
MARY THE MESSENGER
(running toward the stage) Richard, Richard! I have an urgent e-mail message
for you...I just printed it -- here (hands him the paper)
RICHARD THE CERTAIN MAN
(reading) "tell Richard right away, his mother and wife were badly injured in a tour bus.
(begins to cry) The bus was near another bus that was destroyed by a homicide
bomber in Jericho." Oh my... I need to get there....right away--
MARY THE MESSENGER
(comforts Richard) The Israeli Defense Force has closed the roads to Jericho.
No vehicles in or out -- There's only one way you can get there.
RICHARD THE CERTAIN MAN
Walk?
MARY THE MESSENGER
Yes....it's the only way.
RICHARD THE CERTAIN MAN
(wiping his eyes) I need to go, like right now--
MARY THE MESSENGER
I will go with you--
RICHARD THE CERTAIN MAN
No...there's been too many hurt... I will go alone...
As Jesus speaks, 2 thieves come in (out of the spotlight)
and "beat up" Richard. Richard ends up center stage in the front.
with a holey blanket over him.
JESUS
A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and
he fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a certain priest came down that road.
SAM THE CERTAIN PRIEST
(talking animatedly on his cell phone.)
What-do-you-mean, there's no time to waste? I gave you all the money I could spare.
Yes, yes, yes....I took it from the temple account --
(walks up to Richard, looks down at him and mumbles to himself)
hmmmm....You are not my brother (and walks away)
(into his cell phone) No not you....I was talking to...oh nevermind....
JESUS
And when the certain priest saw him, he passed by on the other side.
Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place....
LARRY THE LEVITE
(walks up to Richard, looks down at him and mumbles to himself)
From far away....back there....you looked familiar...but you are not my brother
aand I really don't have time for this today... I'm just too busy--
JESUS
So the Levite came and looked, and passed by on the other side.
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was.
And when he saw the certain man, he had compassion.
STEVE THE SAMARITAN
(walks in pushing a gurney--A metal stretcher with wheeled legs,
used for transporting patients. Steve rushes over to Richard,
and kneels down.)
Oh my....I will be right back.
(goes back to the stretcher and gets a medic kit)
JESUS
So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on medicine; and he set him on his the stretcher, and walked the rest of the way. Finally, the Samaritan brought him to a motel, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out some money, gave them to the motel clerk, and said to him...
STEVE THE SAMARITAN
Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.
MARTHA THE MOTEL CLERK
Yes sir. You are very kind. The hospital is overflowing with victims from the bombings.
STEVE THE SAMARITAN
Thank you. You've been very kind also.
JESUS
(speaking to the lawyer) So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?
LEVI THE CERTAIN LAWYER
He who showed mercy on him.
JESUS
Go and do likewise.
NARRATOR
Are you my neighbor? Are you my brother? Are you my sister?
Remember the golden rule: Do to others as you would have them do to you.
