I lay on the beach most of the day reading from ‘Beyond Jabez’ by Bruce Wilkinson. As I earnestly read the words of this book, I realized too, just how much I’ve always enjoyed basking in the sun—feeling the suns deep penetrating rays all over my body. I love the feel of the sun and so, the word ‘Exposure’ came to mind.
I have always loved exposing myself to the sun and watching my skin turn a golden brown. I learned early on in life that the more I exposed my body to the sun, the more golden my tan became. My mother in law used to say, “my goodness, you are as brown as a ginger bread cake.”
Even though years have passed and my dear mother-in-law has gone on to be with the Son in eternity, I still enjoy lying in the sun on occasion. Life has taken on a new kind of longing for a different exposure these days though and that is exposure to the son, S.O.N..
This Son-exposure, unlike the sun’s rays has a tendency to alter my shade in quite the opposite direction. You see, the Son has the power to change us on the inside and make us white as snow. Isn’t that amazing! This Son has the opposite effect from the sun, yet the longing for His exposure can be more intense.
Now you have to understand that for many years, I did not think there was anything under the sun that was more exhilarating that laying there absorbing those rays. But believe me when I tell you that the exposure that I long for today is deeper, richer and even more fulfilling.
More importantly, the long-lasting effects of our exposure to the Son will far outweigh the temporary hours spent basking in the sun on this side of eternity. Check out God’s promise from the book of Isaiah and rejoice in His amazing love! “No longer will you need the sun to shine by day, nor the moon to give its light by night, for the Lord your God will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Isaiah 60:19
