There are so many things going on in the world today. Among one of them is the obsession problem.People arn't exercising, there are more and more of us that are getting heart conditions and cancer. I see people going out to eat almost every day, not bothering to eat a healthy meal at home. There are tv shows that talk about losing weight with humongous contestants! You wonder how America ever became this way.
Back in Bible times I wonder if any of the women ever really worried about their weight, or realized they had a problem. Like, "Oh I look so fat in this dress", or "my feet look too big in these sandals", Or did they just not worry about it? I think there were probably some who did realize when they had gained weight.
Back then, they could only eat certain meats like fish and many kept to a steady diet of juice and bread. They didn't have the problem we have today of eating too many meats like burgers and sweets.Sometimes I wonder if God was actually keeping the hebrews from getting fat by not allowing them to eat meat? Maybe he knew how dangerous it was. That's a crazy idea, but who knows? Now as far as the sweets scale I don't think they had chocolate bars or chewy caramels back then. Figs were considered sweets. Veggies were a huge part of their meal life. They also had veggies that grew naturally by their homes, and they grew some themselves.
Drinking was still a problem back then though. Kings and priests were probably some of the fattest people around. They were lazy and hardly had exercise. Why exercise when they had servants that did everything for them? However there were some people who realized exercise was good for them. In the Bible it mentioned runners. David and some other famous speakers loved to run. There was also hunting and artillery to test their skills.
As America becomes more and more obsessed with food, we need to maintain a Bible view perspective. Actually I'll call it the Bible diet. We need to eat lots of fish, stay away from meats like pig and cow as much as you can. Maybe a burger or two once a month. Dont drink wine or beer its bad for your health, and God warns us about it. Eat lots of vegetables, Exercise alot. Running is the best. exercise your arms with basketball, and maybe sometime you might even want to test your skills with artillery.Don't stay in front of the tv. You dont want to become like a lazy king! The Bible actually says in talking about the israelites.
PHI 3:19- "Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach,(this is gluttony) and their glory in this is their shame. Their mind is on earthly things." Gluttony has to do with with the EARTH! Unbelievable. It says right there. Its a sin. Maybe there was a reason that God didn't let the jews eat red meat or cows. Maybe they were going to get fat. We'll never know. But for now, know that it can cause heart disease, and exercise just in case you might wrestle a angel like Jacob did. He was working out every day in the field and the angel was amazed at his strength! We should be that well fitnessed too.
Now that you know the Bible view of eating I suspect you'll want to change some of your eating habits. Trust me, you'll feel happier about yourself, and God will be pleased too. Remember ladies, you want to look nice in your dresses. You don't want to look like a potbelly pig!
Remember- 1 Timothy 4:8 informs us, “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”
In Ephesians 5:29- "After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church."
