But Then God Breathed

It was nothing but a pile of dirt;
Lifeless and ugly
But then…God breathed
And dirt became flesh
The ugly became beautiful
And humanity was born.

It was nothing but a heap of dry bones,
Brittle and barren
But then…God breathed
And dry bones took shape and became an exceeding great army
Moved by the breath of His Spirit.

It was nothing but a lifeless corpse,
A promise never expressed
But then…God breathed
“Talitha Koume”
And a little girl became a living promise
Of mercy and miracles

It was nothing but an immoveable stone,
Guardian of the dead
But then…God breathed
And the immoveable moved as the Lion of Judah
Emerged holding the keys to life and death

It was nothing but a secret meeting of desperate followers,
Battling with doubts, afraid it might all be a hoax
But then…God breathed
And the scattered and scared spoke with authority to the multitudes
as Christianity took shape.
