For a limited time, a few of the guides being posted for your spiritual enrichment are on the website. These are taken from the upcoming book to be released October, 2007: The 1 Minute Guide to Health, Wealth, and Happiness: Wisdom from the book of Proverbs 2007, Raquel Soto All rights reserved.

How to read: Chapter of the day correspondences to the day of the month (August 1st: Read Chapter 1). There is one power verse in that chapter for the day. The power verse then is turned into the day's guide.

This article consists of the 7 posts for August that are listed on the main website. Currently, free posts will continue through August, so please check the site daily Monday through Friday.

August 1st The Voice of God

Today's power verse comes from verse 20: Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets.

There are many today that are struggling with hearing God's voice. They want answers to their everyday questions. They wonder about what diet is best for them. Which school their children should attend. What job offer should they take or go after. All along, a quiet voice in the wind is calling out to them.

This still small voice is the voice of God. But it's not always small. Sometimes it cries out. And it cries out from the depths of eternal wisdom.

This type of wisdom, eternal wisdom, is free to the public. The voice can be heard in the streets or in your home for whomever is willing to hear it. It's for the rich. It's for the poor. It's for the healthy. It's for the sick.

Whatever your needs are, there is a deep well of wisdom (applied knowledge and understanding) available to you. It cries out to you, with affection and earnest to listen. Wisdom desires to be heard. Will you heed the call?

August 2nd Help with the Underhanded

Today's power verse comes from verse 12: To deliver thee from the way of the evil [man], from the man that speaketh froward things;

Let's define what froward means. Froward in this text in the Hebrew is perverse things. The NLT gives us a rounder picture: twisted. The Amplified adds at the end: and are liars.

We can't help the twisted, mean, underhanded things people say about us, but we can help our reaction. There is a time to use the vocabulary of silence and there is a time to speak up.

Have you ever had someone say something awful to you and you just opened your mouth and let that person have it? Only to find that you not only made it worse, but you didn't have all the information? Had you just used a little wisdom, the whole thing would have blown over?

To deliver in this verse is the Hebrew word natsal. It means to snatch away, rescue, or to save according to Strong's (refer to number H5337). Using wisdom will snatch you away from what evil people (people who are intent on twisting things around) say or do to you. Your first reaction might be to retaliate, but if you would yield to wisdom, you will come out victorious every time.

August 3rd Why believe

Today's power verse is a double header: verses 19 and 20 state: The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. By His knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down dew.

The preeminence of God is a step of faith. In order to believe what someone tells you, you have to respect and believe the source. If you don't believe that God is for you and not against you, how can you then yield to what He shows you?

Colossians 1:16 brings us more understanding: For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for him:

This is one reason why we can believe. It is a reason we can trust the wisdom that is being poured into us from God on a daily basis. It is because He was there from the beginning and has created everything. He knows how your particular body functions. He knows how to market your particular product: has He not also made the people to whom it will help?

Nothing on this earth or anywhere else can outwit Him; can outdo Him; can out think Him. Whatever questions you have, you can trust Him to show you the answer.

August 4th Shine on

Today's power verse is found on verse 18: But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

Who is just or righteous? Many people mix this up with holiness. Being just or righteous has to do with your relationship with God, while being holy is your character. Being just has nothing to do with what you do, but what Jesus did for you and your acceptance of His generous offer. Holiness is what you do in response to His offer.

In the Hebrew I read somewhere that it reads going and illuminating unto the prepared day. This verse gives us the metaphor of the sun rising. It's a progression.

There is a gradual increase of sunlight throughout the day. There is a gradual progression of wisdom for you. You might start off in the dark, but slowly light filters in and before long you hit twilight. And then after, you begin to walk in the light that you have obtained and you begin to reflect days of heaven on the earth.

One of the most precious gifts you can give someone is to allow your light to shine through. There are those in your circle who needs to know what you know. Who might be going through something that you have already found a solution for. Look for the opportunity to shine today.

August 5th Keep out of harm's way

Today's power verse is another double header and can be found in verses 7 and 8: Hear me now, therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth. Remove they way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

Verse seven begins by calling out that you take notice and focus on what is being said, for it tells us to cleave to the words being spoken. It's providing ahead of time a safety net from the temptation that crouches at the door, just waiting to devour you.

In verse eight it gives us the key to victory from such a temptation: get away! Don't get near her!

Simple, yet profound. If a former alcoholic hangs around a bar, would he not eventually succumb to the former temptation? How do most affairs start in the office? By simply hanging out and hanging around someone time after time after time. You don't wake up one day and think: hum...today is a good day to have an affair. The door needs to be opened, even if it just a crack.

Avoid getting into something you'll regret by purposefully taking steps to protect yourself. I read somewhere those that would be kept from harm must be kept out of harm's way. God will keep you from harm, but do your part by keeping out of harm's way.

August 6th I should have listened to my mother

Today's power verse is found in verse 20: My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of they mother:

Although God sets the laws, He purposefully created our existence so that we come in partnership with Him. He doesn't desire us to be zombies, but come and reason with Him (Isaiah 1:18). Parents have the great opportunity to put God's commandments into our lives. And as those things of God are taught and observed, we benefit the goodness and mercy that is God's best.

It is our job then to remember the things that our parents taught us and not to forsake them. We can't just cast them aside because they seem out of fashion. Since when has wealth, health, and happiness become out of fashion? We can't discard them just because others might believe we are "too much to the right". The right of what? Blessing? Riches? Honor? Long life? Let God be true and every man a liar (Romans 3:4).

Let the root that has been planted in you from your youth that lines up with God's Word bear fruit in your life. A great deal of trouble can be prevented if only we would yield to the wisdom of our parents. May we always feel the impression of God's will by allowing the work of remembrance to bring to light the beauty and truth of God's timeless Word.

August 7th Running from Adultery

Today's power verse comes from verse 26: She has cast down many wounded: yea, many strong (men) have been slain by her.

There are timeless truths here about adultery. We see by example that both David and Samson had terrible consequences because of it. In our modern era, we have seen the devastating effects on the Body of Christ when one of our own falls.

When someone commits adultery, it is never about just the two people involved in the act. It affects the spouse, the children, and the family. It'll involve the workplace, your finances, and your community. We've seen even in our time when it affects our nation and our trust in the words that come out of the mouth of our Commander in Chief. Trust is broken. It destroys the soul (Proverbs 6:32).
So what can you do to protect yourself from being slain (having everything - your family, your job, your ministry - destroyed)? Is there anything you can do?

1st Corinthians 6:18 tells us to flee sexually immorality. Flee means to run fast! Does this not also remind you of Proverbs 5:8? The best way to avoid adultery in the first place is to not even give the opportunity for a seed to grow. Do yourself a favor -- run from it!
I hope you enjoyed this free excerpt and continue to check the website with more free posts on upcoming days.
May all your days be filled to the full, till it overflows in Him.
