For the Lord Himself
will descend from Heaven
with a shout of command,
with the archangel's call,
and with the sound of the trumpet...
[1 Thessalonians 4:16]
****************************
"I don't like trumpets, Lord.
I think they're too loud."
[NOD.]
"How come You're not
gonna' come down with a harp?
I thought all angels were
really good at them."
"No."
"So, not all angels are
good with them?
Or, 'no' - You're
won't change You mind
about the harp?"
"I said,
no,
child."
"You say no a whole
lot to me, Lord;
You know that?
How come?"
"Cuz'."
"I like how You talk
natural to me, Lord:
nothing fancy."
[NOD.]
"Anyhow, so what's with
this shout? How is
anybody going to hear You?"
"What do you mean, child."
"Well, just a little shout:
what's that gonna' do?
(silence)
I guess if You have one
of those horn-things
that referees use at
football games, that
might work."
[PATIENT SILENCE.]
"Or, what about via
satillite?"
"Watch your spelling, child."
"Yeah, You're right,
Lord. I spelled it
wrong. So, is that
how You're going
to project Your shout -
with a satellite?"
"No, My precious."
"Well, the earth's really
big, Lord. I don't think
a little shout's gonna' do it."
"I understand, child."
"How about angel Michael using
a guitar? That's a lot more
sweet and pretty.
I'm not talking about an
electric guitar, Lord.
You know: the other type."
[SMILE.]
"A trumpet's just not very
soothing, Lord."
"No."
"You're being kinda'
close-mouthed about
this whole thing,
aren't You?"
[SILENCE.]
"Maybe, I've got a wrong
picture about this Day,
Lord."
[SILENCE]
"Maybe, it's not gonna'
be all this pretty
singing, and, like,
calm stuff."
[SILENCE.]
"Hey, Lord? Suppose
I'm in my house, when
You come, and I don't
hear You?
Suppose, like,
I've got the
radio on - or,
I'm on the phone,
or somethin'?
Or, suppose I get
back my cable,
and I've got the TV on?"
"This doesn't matter, child.
You only have to listen."

With trumpets and
the sound of the horn,
make a joyful noise
before the King,
the Lord!
[Psalms 98:6]
