I'm in training
for the Heavenly wreath.
I must be careful what I watch
and careful what I eat.
I'll wear that string of leaves
forever green upon my head
for my roots keep on a stretching
towards the Spirit's river bed.
I hope you'll see my picture
on Heaven's Wheaties box
among the cloud of witnesses
who all took up their cross.
As expansive as Lance's
I'll train my spiritual lungs
and click into gear with James
speed on with living tongue.
I hope not to cycle like Martha
around with no direction.
My training will be more like her sister
His gaze was her reflection.
I want to be among
the amazing true but few
who rode that daisy of a race
on a bicycle made for two.
Ezekiel and Paul;
Peter, James, and Mary
may be cheering in the clouds
each time I drop the sin I've carried.
As I keep my focus on
the Finisher of my race
I know He'll keep my tires pumped
so I can cross the finish line with grace.
