Overhead I saw a solitary star,
Shining brightly against a darkened sky.
I gazed up where I know you are,
My heart still burdened with the why.
Beside me sat the one who gave you birth,
Speaking of the memories of your earthly life.
So many, many days of joy and mirth,
Sprinkled with a few moments of strife.
"That's our girl," I heard your mother say,
As her finger pointed into the sky.
"She's watching us in her own way."
My eyes began to cry.
Overhead I saw a solitary star,
Shining brightly against a darkened sky.
Missing you, loving you from afar,
My heart filled with the echoing, heartbroken sigh.
