Rainbow People

Our town was invaded by the Rainbow People who came from all over the United States to convene upon an area of land that was considered sacred.

For three weeks the town ballooned to add 29,000 extra persons to our community.
They brought with them their Utopian thinking and counterculture to the strikingly opposite thinking of Clarksville. Most 'tolerated' their presence in the knowledge 'they' would be gone soon.

As I looked at these differently attired participants that looked back at us as "Babylon," I wondered if they kept this culture as their norm. Most said yes, but a few young attendees, in their 20's were kinda of and kinda of not sticklers for their cause.

While in Clarksville, Arkansas they infiltrated our stores. Store employees were on the alert when they came in by announcing, that the cameras to be set on 360 and all employees on the floor. One day I walked in a step ahead of two male 'Rainbows'. The store announced the overhead warning. I thought, how horrible to not be trusted, and humorous if I put the establishment so ill at ease. The Rainbow People had a knack for taking things or performing antisocial acts in public or in a store if the aim was to acquire food or something they needed. They wanted attention like young children with tantrums!

They were in the big store known in every town in America. They walked over to the fruit and produce and began washing their hair over the fruit and veggies. Why? So the store would have to remove these items due to contamination and dispose of them. Then the R. P. would ask for the store to give the items to them. That's how they got food sometimes.

One night, I left my work at the hospital and headed home. I got to Rogers Street. Stopped. The cop car passed me and I turned behind him. Then it hit. I smelled marijuana all the way down to the intersection. I thought well, it is the R. P. striking again. When I turned to go down a long stretch through the middle of our little downtown district, the marijuana was still present, and it was strong. It continued to waft pass this area of downtown, and I thought, gee, I hope I get to my house before I am knocked out by the odor! All the way home the smell was everywhere. Social deviance strikes again!

The R. P. decided to camp on Ozark National Forest land just prime tender for possible fire. The cops arrested a large group for encroaching and anything they could add to make an arrest. They were held overnight. The town was worried that all it would take is one match to start a raging forest fire.

Then God blessed us with rain. It rained, it rained, and the R. P. got rained out from where they were. They were quoted as to saying, that it was horrible in our neck of the woods. Well, our forests are dense, thick underbrush, with no open fields. We have 2700 varieties of insects, and the insects found the R. P., and so did the many variety of snakes which caused them to be admitted to the hospital!

They also had problems with sanitation, campsites, and water. A few stayed at the number one store found in America and the provided parking lot. Free lighting, access to toliets, and minus snakes! The big day, July 4th, day of the optimum prayer zenith arrived, they said their prayers, om-m-m's, and left.

A few remained weeks afterward, picking up the garbage, etc. I don't think they will choose for their hot spot the magnificient, scenic, insect and snake infested Ozarks soon, at least in this century. Here I thought they loved communing with nature!

But the lesson I learned from them is simple. They are trying to embrace something that "we" have lost. Simple life. Far from cell phones, business, up to date vehicles, credit card headaches, and spend, spend, spend! But they do like the main store, like everyone else does! Their life is far from simple as they have not slipped the bonds of earth, and looked as trapped as those they are escaping from.

I laughed when I saw how they dressed, some of the spiritual men were dressed in women's long 70 style dresses. My laughter came to me as I thought, "I wish I could look that good in those clothes again!"

Somewhere deep inside I sense something I lost but something I lost I do not want to find myself living in again. The sins that pervade and corrupt the culture. They have traded one problem for another, and given it a label called for better a term-utopia. I listen to their stories and their quest for spirituality. I do not envy the life they have chosen, it has no temptation for me.

Their desire for freedom is understandable, but they have not slipped the bondages of American taxes, and need for money. They pray to what they don't know, who they don't know, just something out there. I later found out the goddess, Gaia, was the focus of their prayers. Lost in a world that is lost. There is only one thing to say when you meet them, "Hey, man! Jesus loves you! brother, pass it on!"

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life."

Pass It On
by Kurt Kaiser

It only takes a spark
to get a fire going,
And soon all those around
can warm up in its glowing;
That's how it is with God's Love,
Once you've experienced it,
Your spread the love
to everyone
You want to pass it on.

What a wonderous time is spring,
When all the tress are budding
The birds begin to sing,
the flowers start their blooming;
That's how it is with God's love,
Once you've experienced it.
You want to sing,
it's fresh like spring,
You want to pass it on.

I wish for you my friend
This happiness that I've found;
You can depend on God
It matters not where you're bound,
I'll shout it from the mountain top - PRAISE GOD!
I want the world to know
The Lord of love has come to me
I want to pass it on.

I'll shout it from the mountain top - PRAISE GOD!
I want the world to know
The Lord of love has come to me
I want to pass it on.
