I received many beautiful cards for my 79th birthday last week.
I'd like to share one with you.
It came from 15 saints of the Valley Isle Fellowship on the Island of Maui, Hawaii.
We served as Interim Pastor there when it was known as Wailuku Baptist Church.
"We thank God that He brought you to Wailuku Baptist Church as Interim Pastor...
when He did.
You and La Moyne have been a joy, a blessing, an encouragement and more....
all these years.
Both of you have been obedient and faithful servants and have touched many lives.
Happy Birthday and God's continued blessings on your life."
The Scripture on the card was from I Samuel 13:14:
"The Lord sought out a man after His own heart and appointed him leader of His people".
Along with the card was a precious Love Gift from those special saints in Maui.
While reading 'Streams in the Desert' devotion for today...
I noticed that I had written this in the margin for tomorrow:
"Looking for a Promise from God concerning going to serve as Interim Pastor at Wailuku Baptist on the Island of Maui. God gave us this Promise today...'Prove me now'
(Malachi 3:10). We served on Maui from Sept. '96 - Oct. '97"
Pastor Richard Smith and his wife Cindy, came from Denver when we left and have served faithfully all these years and God is truly blessing Valley Isle Fellowship!
Along with that Promise in 'Streams' was this quote from S.D. Gordon. (July 27)
"Give all He asks.....take all He Promises!"
La Moyne and I have been SO blessed to serve as:
Missionaries to Korea....
Director of the OU Baptist Student Union....
Pastor and family at 5 churches...
Interim Pastor at 10 churches (5 in Oklahoma and 5 in Hawaii)
It never gets 'old' to receive 'Thanks' from saints we've served and loved through the years....and is especially encouraging now that we're in retirement and experiencing some health 'challenges'.
I got to thinking about how I'd like to share a Prayer for God's Precious People...
past, present and future.
1) TAKE ALL THAT GOD GIVES AND GIVE ALL THAT HE ASKS~
Someone has well said:
"God shovels in and we shovel out..and God has the larger shovel".
2) LET GO AND LET GOD~
The greatest ability is availability.
Report to God for duty each morning.
Lean your arms on the window sill of Heaven...
Look full into the face of God...
Then turn strong to meet the day.
One of the greatest prayers we will ever pray, is the Prayer of Relinquishment.
3) SUFFICIENT MEANS SUFFICIENT~
Romans 5: Vs. 9,10,15,17 and 20 give us the 'Much Mores' for earth....
while Revelation 21:4 gives the 'No Mores' for Heaven.
4) THE PROMISES OF GOD~
Over 1,900 times in the Bible, God says 'Come'.
He wishes to provide Life at it's Best.
Philippians 3-4 give precious provisions of God for us.
Please read both Chapters carefully and notice the words and/or the provisions...
that begin with the letter 'p'.
5) THE 'F's OF GOD FOR LIVING~ (I Timothy 6:10-12)
Forsake some things.....
Fight the good fight....
Faith for every day....
6) NEVER LOSE THE WONDER OF IT ALL~ (See website paper of 12-4-04)
Private and public worship are a big part of this.
7) HAVE CONVICTIONS BASED ON PERSONAL EXPERIENCE~
Know WHAT you believe....and WHY you believe it.
8) PRAY AS IF EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON GOD....
then WORK AS IF EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON YOU.
His strength is made perfect in our weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
Today there are many new gadgets to talk over....
yet there seems to be no time for talking 'to' and 'about' God.
9) JOY = JESUS AND YOU WITH NOTHING BETWEEN~
The Joy of the Lord is your strength, but things can get in the way.
'Things' can be good servants, but are terrible 'masters'.
Your Joy must go deeper!
10) WITHOUT LOVE YOU ARE A ZERO~
I Cor. 13 gives the value, virtues and victory of love.
You can give without loving, but you can't love without giving!
Faith is how you know 'where' you're going.....
Hope is 'what' keeps you going.....
Love is 'how' you get there.
11) RESENTMENT WILL NEVER BRING CONTENTMENT~
If Paul could be content (even in prison), so can we.....no matter what.
"I have resolved in whatsoever state I am in, therewith to be content".
12) IT IS HARD TO LEARN MUCH UNTIL YOU LEARN PATIENCE~ (Heb.10:36 and 12:1)
13) GROWTH MUST FOLLOW BIRTH...OR YOU HAVE A TRAGEDY~ (II Peter 3:18)
John 15 says "He is the Vine and we are the branch".
We draw from God and grow and bear fruit for Him.
14) COUNTING YOUR BLESSINGS~
When counting your blessings, be sure and count spiritual blessings...
more than material blessings.
15) IT IS NEVER RIGHT TO DO WRONG....AND NEVER WRONG TO DO RIGHT ~
16) WE MUST LIVE WITH ETERNITY IN MIND~
This will change you and help you to influence others for Eternity.
17) GOD SAVED YOU AND THAT'S YOUR GREATEST MIRACLE~
Now trust Him for other miracles.
18) THE TRINITY (GOD THE FATHER, SON AND THE HOLY SPIRIT)~
This is taught in the Bible, so believe The Three in One...
and don't be 1/3rd...or 2/3rd...atheist.
All of these Prayers point us to:
Serving the Lord more sincerely....
Sharing our Faith more clearly....
Following the Lord more nearly (closer)....
Loving my family more dearly.
We can not choose the length of our life....
but we CAN choose the width and depth of our life!
Most importantly, choose God as The Master Potter of your life. (Jeremiah 18)

What a joyous article to be able to share Travis. You have served God faithfully before you were retired and are now serving God faithfully after you have retired, by putting out a wonderful article with which to bless everyone. God bless both you and La Moyne!! In His love your friend, Sharon
