It happened in New Orleans before the devastating flood.
A family was on vacation there.
The parents sent the 11 year old and the 12 year old down to the van in the hotel's parking lot to get a piece of luggage.
They were careless.
The kids not only left the doors unlocked but left the keys in the van too!
In a moments time, the Father looked out the hotel window and saw his van speeding from the hotels parking lot!
The police were called immediately. They were on the look out for a maroon Chevy Van.
A few minutes later an officer came to the hotel to get the report.
He told them about a car stealing ring that they had been investigating for months in the area. He apologized to the family for having their vacation ruined by thieves.
Then he informed them that the van had been spotted on a high way heading out of town where a suspected chop shop was located.
Angry the Mom jumped up and prayed. She shouted, “In the name of Jesus, stop, thief stop!”
The Dad looked at the policeman in embarrassment. He said, “My wifes kinda…religious. Sorry.”
The Mom continued, “Angels chase that car down and stop it!” Continuing, she quoted Psalm 35:5,6,and 8
Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them!
Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them!
Let destruction come upon him at quickly! Let the net he put out for us catch himself: Let them be caught in their own net!"
The kids put comic books over their faces to try to hide. The husband got up and looked out the window still embarrassed, but the officer was intrigued.
He said, "Maam, in 28 years on the force I have never heard anything like that! I hope it works. We sure need it. The criminals have got the upper hand on us!” Laughing heartily, he left.
The Mom continued walking and praying. She was a teacher in a Christian school.
In the van was her Religion Curriculum Binders and all of her Bible resource books!
The baby was upset because her Sponge Bob stuffed toy was gone. She kept screaming ”Pong Pob! Pong Pob!”
The husband was trying to call a car rental place when the phone rang. It was the officer with good news. He told him that their vehicle had been retrieved a few minutes after he left them.
The thieves stopped the van on the highway and jumped out in terror. They were running down the highway when they were arrested, but the strange thing about the whole situation was the thieves steadfastly refuse to tell the police what scared them so badly.
Did they suddenly have some extra passengers?
Who knows but God?
Everything in the van was still intact, all of the mothers binders and the baby’s stuffed toy. The van had a minor scrape on the bumper but that was the extent of the damage.
Exactly one month later the parents were called to testify at the trial of the two car thieves.
The angels are listening for the word. Don't be ashamed to speak it!
Psalm 35:4-9 Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.
Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them.
Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.
For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.
Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.
And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation.
Psalm 103:20 Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.
Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
