8. The Relationship Argument:
The question confronting every believer, and which every believer needs to answer, is; What is the right name of my Saviour – Jesus or Yahshua? These are two different names, which do not have the same meaning. That is a fact that cannot be argued away. It may be so that with the passing of time, the name Jesus contracted the meaning Saviour, but it became the accepted meaning, because of the ignorance that prevailed during the Dark Ages. “YaHWeH is Salvation” is NOT the original meaning of the name Jesus.
YaHWeH never gave the name Jesus that meaning. Nowhere in Scripture is there proof of that. Neither did He change the Name of His Son. It was man’s to do under the inspiration of his arch-enemy. If the Scriptures regard the Name as absolutely important – in fact an essential part of salvation, is it not obvious that the enemy will do everything in his power to keep people ignorant of, not only the Name itself, but also its importance in the life of faith?
Another argument that is used by people who refuse to use the correct Name of our Saviour is; “We must decide whether it is the name that is important, or a relationship with the Lord”.
My reaction to this argument is; Why must we make such a decision? After all, those who have accepted the Name have not exchanged their relationship with the Father in favour of faith in His Name. The truth of the matter is that it is the Name that has brought a new dimension in this mutual relationship. I talk of personal experience. Since I have discovered and started to use the Names of my Father and my Saviour, my love for and relationship with the Master has only deepened. There is no doubt about that. The reason why this is so, is twofold.
In the first place Scripture teaches that it is only through faith in the Name that any person can come into a right relationship with the Father. It is when a person calls upon that Name in faith, that he/she is included in the Covenant. (Joël 2:32, Rom.10:13) It is important to understand that it is the shed Blood of Yahshua that purchased our salvation, but it is the calling upon His name in faith that appropriates that salvation.
Secondly, calling upon His Name is a command that is repeated over and over again throughout the Scriptures. It is a command that is given to us in both the Old and New Covenants. Obedience to His commands is foundational to a healthy relationship with Him. 1 Sam.15:22, Acts 5:29)
“O give thanks unto YaHWeH; call upon His Name: make known His deeds among the people.” (Ps.105:1) This is a very clear instruction.
“Our help is in the Name of YaHWeH, who made heaven and earth.” (Ps.124:8) He instigated the principal that people could only be helped in and through His Name.
“Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy Name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.” (Ps.140:14) To give thanks to and praise His Name is to dwell in His presence. That speaks to me of real intimacy.
“Quicken me, (make me alive) O YaHWeH, for Your Name’s sake: for Your righteousness sake bring my soul out of trouble.” (Ps.143:11) The Covenant contract is ratified for His Name’s sake.
“YaHWeH is nigh unto all them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth.” (Ps.145:18) Is it possible to call upon Him in truth, using a false (untrue) name? Yes it was. Grace made it possible! Thousands of people have been birthed into the Kingdom of heaven (much to Satan’s disgust) in the name Jesus. The Father’s mercy excused our ignorance. But now He is, through His Spirit, busy restoring His true Name. Now there is no excuse for those who have been given the truth.
“And the times of this ignorance Elohim winked at (excused): but now commands all men every where to repent.” (Acts 17:30)
