Early on the flame of faith
In youthful fervor brightly shone,
And glowed into a mother's life,
(and, slowly lost intensity, as worldly tasks and cares had grown.)
And, creeping in, those noxious weeds
Crowded, choked and thistled out
The cooling heat within my heart.
Gigantic weeds from small seeds of doubt.
But God does not forsake His own.
As flighty moth comes to the flame,
I longed to feel the holy warmth
Found only in one loving name.
No looking back at wasted time,
No beating up the faithless shell.
Christ's love erases sinful pasts,
And standing straight is one who fell.
Up, up, awake, thou child of God,
Thou Christ-child of the God on high.
Reclaim the light through word and song,
To brightly live and glowing die.
