Independence Day for the United States of America – What does that mean today? It certainly doesn’t carry the same meaning it carried so long ago. Freedom was fought for – to gain the right to worship our God as we saw fit according to the Bible. The fight for freedom had meaning and worth.
However, sad to say, the whole idea of freedom in 2007 means, “leave me alone to do what is right in my own eyes.” I’m sure if our founding fathers knew the downward spiral that we have come to in America, they would be outraged! They gave their blood, sweat and tears to give us the right to worship our God – not ourselves.
Once it was a privilege to be called an American – I’m not so sure that it is anymore.
Look at our homes, ravaged by pain and abuse. The schools completely deleted God from their campus’ and our children have no role models of any worth. Businesses no longer lend a helping hand. We live in a dog eat dog world.
People step on one another to reach the top, but when they finally make it to the top – they are empty and lonely. Lost are the days of porch sitting and sharing our blessings, needs and laughter.
The mere sound of the word, “America” once stirred a sense of pride within me – now it saddens my heart.
Yet, my prayer, my hope is that the great place for which I have as my home – is to return. Return to those values, beliefs, and convictions of by gone days.
For this to happen, we must take a stand! We need to get off our lazy seats of do nothing – get outside of our four walls and start living the principals that this land was birthed on – life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness --- with God as our Leader!
