Dust, Dirt, and Grime
Dust, Dirt and Grime
Time for confession. Don't you hate those times when you know you have to confess and don't want to? Well, that time has come. Most of you ladies will laugh and some of you will be shaking your head yes knowing you are guilty too. Some of you men will be thinking of tasks you hate to do as well. My confession is simple. I hate doing housework. I don't mind sweeping once in a while, I hate to dust. I like doing dishes once in awhile, but am grateful for the dishwasher in our newer home. I like washing clothes because I can throw them in the washer and run off to do other things. Same with the dryer. Now my house is clutter free. I straighten up my house every day and it looks pretty nice, just don't look at the dust or the cob webs. I would much rather be outside planting flowers, pulling weeds, or even mowing the grass. Anything as long as it deals with the out of doors.
I realize the importance of cleaning. It is to get rid of the dust, grime and dirt. I also know if I don't do it weekly it can build up. If it builds up it can take me a whole lot longer to get rid of the dust, dirt, and grime. I have done both. I have cleaned weekly and I have let it go.
Recently, when I was cleaning God shared some more of His insights with me. That is what weekly church service is all about. Plain and simple. During the week we accumulate dust, dirt and grime in our own lives. When we worship on Sunday morning that is the time to rid ourselves of those things. We come to church on Sunday not only to fill our cup, but to clean our cup. We need a time to clean our cup before we can fill our cup and get ready for the next week. There are times I just want to come to church to be filled. I don't want to clean. I don't want to take the time to scrub off those dusty marks, or dirty cracks or clean the grime left behind by something or someone in my life. But you know what? It's just like home if I don't clean weekly then it builds up, and builds up. The next thing I know I am having to spend hours cleaning my life and not being able to enjoy the good times.
There are some tasks at home you do daily. For instance making the bed or doing the dishes, or picking up the newspapers, just little things to help your home look nice on a daily basis. That is where Bible Study and prayer come in each day. I have found if I read my Bible and pray every day, I don't have to scrub as hard on Sunday mornings. I go to Wednesday night Bible Study and that has really help with the dust, dirt and grime during the week. Just like the house though I have to be diligent and do these things on a daily basis. If not, then it takes extra work on Sundays.
My mom always taught me you had to do "Spring House Cleaning" and "Fall House Cleaning". Things you don't do but once or twice a year. After we would do them how the house would shine. I do attempt to do the spring and fall cleaning, not only in my home, but also in my life. I think it is important for each of us to stop and reflect on what areas in our life needs extra cleaning. What are those things in our life we really do need to discard? What areas need to be scrubbed a little more than usual? I enjoy going on Women's Retreats. I use those times to really clean, scrub, and polish. Just like the home after a good cleaning my life shows the work I've have done and I am ready to move on until the next time.
How is the dust, dirt and grime in your life? Do you go to church each Sunday just to be filled up or do you take the time to clean yourself as well? Do you do the necessary tasks each day so you won't have to clean so hard? Wednesday nights are a wonderful time to set aside to do a little extra cleaning each week. And what about the spring and fall cleaning? When is the last time you have done those tasks?
My prayer is that you take time each day through prayer and Bible Study to clean, that on Sundays you go to clean your cup as well as fill it and that God will show you those areas that need a good Spring and Fall cleaning.
