Did God Make Me

Said little John one day to his mother so dear
“Mama you know I was not made by God I fear”
Shocked his Mother shook her head disapprovingly
“Why would you say something like that I worry”

Little John climbed up into her arms so warm
As tears welled up and a stifle he calmed
“The other boys said I am not right in the head,
Am slow to react and not well read.”

“God doesn’t make cripples like me,
He made man in his perfect likeness you see”
His mother choked on a lump in her throat
As she knew what the doctors stated in their final note

Your son will grow to become a man in every sense
But never will he able to responsibility dispense
There is nothing that medicine has devised
That will make your little boy turn wise.

She held him tight and a story of long ago she began
Of David the poor shepherd on the plains of Judea he ran
No one paid attention as he tended his flock
That one day he would rise to be Judea’s rock

When the enemy ran amok in Judea’s plains
A giant named Goliath came to reign
As the king could not bring him down
He sent for the poor shepherd to save his crown.

As the giant and the poor shepherd in the battle field met
The enemy laughed for a match like this was so unset
But as the giant with arrogant farce bellowed
David looked up to the heavens with his faith bestowed

He put in his sling-shot a tiny pebble he kept
As he took aim and swiftly the sling-shot he swept
The single pebble brought the giant down
David cried God’s name even as the enemy fled town

“What he accomplished was no short of a miracle dear”
Said John’s mother as she drew him near,

She said to him “You are like David my son”
God wouldn’t put you here if there was no battle to be won

To all those who tell you that you are God’s forsaken
Remember for being different was Jesus’ life taken.
