“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy;
at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”
Psalm 16:11 KJV
There once was a poodle named Bruno and a cat called Corporal. At the
appointed time of day, the mistress would find a quiet spot in the garden to
rest and reflect. Both pets were often found to be at her side, since they had
learned that time spent with her was always preferable to time confined
alone.
Corporal relished this time and drew near to the Loved One’s attention. He
stretched out full length to receive all the loving strokes she would offer.
Bruno, on the other hand, looked anxiously up and down the way before him
for signs of action. He would restlessly move from spot to spot, inching his
way beyond the confines of his mistress’s property. And if she but glanced
away, he would leave her presence and race to other places and other
interests.
The question came to me; “Am I like the cat, enjoying His strokes, relaxing in my Lord’s Presence. Or, like the dog, who regarded these time as
freedom from the emptiness, but was only biding time until something more
interesting comes along?
Father God: Help me to find the fullness of joy in your presence today; to
receive all the loving strokes you wish to bestow on me; to find rest as I languish in your loving care. Amen
