Prayer Brings Peace

Our congregation bought a church from another congregation who had built a huge church in the suburbs.

The Pastor had TV interviews where he joyfully announced the completion of his new church inviting all to visit.

It was a fabulous structure of imported wood, glass and custom stained glass windows.
Our congregation moved into his former church two weeks later.

About seven of us came on a Monday morning to get the Sunday school department ready and to assign classrooms.

At lunch time I decided to take a tour of the huge church which consisted of about 7 buildings on three different streets.

I started in the sanctuary and surrounding area.
Suddenly I heard a moaning. I knew it was not a real person. It was spiritual. I continued to walk and listen.

It was the former Pastor. He was in deep sorrow. He was crying, “Oh my church, my church!”
“I don’t want to leave my church. O God….”

Who would believe the Pastor was really grieved over the old building, after having built such an impressive new building?
The Spirit knew.

Buildings and houses need prayer over them before they are occupied. Sometimes former occupants leave more than clothes in the attic! Sometimes they leave sorrow, pain, and grief.

I continued to hear the Pastor wailing in the building for about a month, then it just went away.
I told no one because I did not think they would understand.

Because of this discernment it is very hard to go to prisons and other institutions because the sorrow is felt so deeply, it is so pronounced, but God comforts us through our struggles.
