PLANS, GOT SOME
Briefly, a plan is a premeditated effort, scheme, program, outline, drawing, method, or configuration used to bring about the accomplishment of an objective, project, or goal. Some people make their living by developing plans for others. However, there are those who are too 'impatient' to consider detailed plans. That happened to me on one occasion:
We had just acquired a shiny, jet black lab puppy. Not to be a house dog---but a backyard dog. So, on the spur of the moment, I decided to build Prince a doghouse. Using materials on hand and a wood scrap pile, I eagerly began the project. No plans. Built the left wall, added the back wall, then the right wall. Ready for the front. Say, this didn't come out right. Cock-eyed doghouse. Did what I could do... The roof was another cock-eyed catastrophe. My wife and children wondered what I had created.
What hurt my feelings most was the dog. Did he have a premonition of the doghouse 'caving in'? He sprinted to the corner of the lot---laid down and looked on with 'sad' eyes. Prince didn't want anything to do with that doghouse! The only way we could get Prince in the doghouse was to put his food and water in there! So much for plan-less enterprises.
The Bible basically speaks of three kinds of plans: evil plans, haphazard human plans, and God-inspired plans:
"They encourage each other in evil plans, they talk about hiding their snares; they say, 'Who will see them?' They plot injustice and say, 'We have devised a perfect plan!' Surely the mind and heart of man are cunning." Ps 64:5,6.
Our media, criminal agencies, and courts are having heydays trying to keep up with this type of activity. " See how wicked people think up evil; they plan trouble and practice deception." Ps 7:14. GNB.
Let's be leery of our own, often selfish, human plans. Evil intent is not necessarily involved here. Just our own human judgment. Without the consideration of a Sovereign God, Who has and will be 'personally involved' in the lives of 'open-hearted,' willing subscribers.
"Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails." Prov 19:21.
"Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth." Prov 27:1
"Now listen, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.' Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, 'If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that.' As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil." James 4:13-16.
God-inspired plans are twofold: He IZ pleased, We IZ pleased. Doesn't mean some pathways will never have rocks in them, sometimes even boulders. It does mean that our God has the heavy-duty grading machinery to "smooth" out the way.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart." Jer 29: 11-13.
Plans and Promises---God is right there for us...
"Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground (with the heavy-duty road machinery clearing the way)" Ps 143:10.
Many in today's world view our Sovereign God as a stifler, suppressor, restrictor, minimizer, confiner, cramper of human life on this planet. This is very sad. The media, secularists, atheists, liberals, dissidents---all seem to promote this attitude with all the energy they can muster.
The conclusion of the matter, though, rests here:
"If the Lord delights in a man's way (plans), He makes his steps FIRM; though he stumble, he will NOT fall, for the Lord UPHOLDS him with His hand." Ps 37:23,24. Amen???
