"It's taken me 50,000 separate wrecks to get here,"
and each wreck has left me naked;
naked and drowning in everything I grew up with.
But one of these days I'll wake these weary eyes.
And yes, one of these days I'll spread my wings and fly.
Let me count the wrecks, for I have named them all
All have become another priceless memory stuck under my eyes
And without sun is where I will behold them again
I'll reflect, restart, and jump right into my next wreck.
Broken, weary, but with a smile is where I stand
And I stand beside my mistake:
clinching it like a brother slowly dying,
kissing it like a lover I'll never see again.
Falling upon deaf ears in the mist of another heartache
wow, doesn't that sound like another tragic sunday
And I have sat there once again
I have sat here as well
I have held your words and I have let them slip
I have changed my mind, my heart, my hair
And through everything I have learned once again:
These wrecks have spoken,
These coffins have shouted,
the rear lights are flashing red,
and under my breath I will hear my heart sing:
"It's taken me 50,000 separate wrecks to get here,
And I've learned absolutely nothing."
