My Declaration of Dependence
“For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” Romans 1:20. We often use this verse to respond to an unbeliever’s question, “what about the primitive native who’s never heard the gospel of salvation?” Scripture says that contemplating His awesome works in all of creation we can see Gods divine nature, “the invisible things of him…are clearly seen.”
For myself I like to embrace this verse to include “the visible things of Him.” Some people may translate this as looking at the beauty of a mountain or possibly an ocean. The colors of birds or fish impress me as some of His most artistic work. The changing seasons also evidence many of the visible manifestations of His nature. For me, spring is the all time display, of the power, of the God of creation.
Perhaps it’s because spring is my favorite season that I feel this way, or possibly spring is my favorite season because this is when I recognize His greatest workmanship.
I thrill inside and out as I await the first signs of the new birth of creation. The first Robin seen is usually how it begins. The flowers struggling through the crusted earth in search of sunshine bring smiles to my heart. The first buds awakening sleepy eyed upon the tree branches remind me of His love. He not only created everything that surrounds me, but He renews it on a consistent basis. He is constantly regenerating and refreshing His creation that we often refer to as “nature.”
He is also constantly uplifting His children. He sees the condition of our wintered weathered hearts when we have strayed or sinned against Him. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all our un-righteousness.” Like the first signs of spring our hearts are refreshed anew. The gifts of renewed life are manifest in our hearts. We breathe the fresh air of pardon. Sins are not only forgiven, they are, “remembered no more” like the gray skies of winter.
Are you perhaps in need of a little spring cleaning, dear reader? Has the debris of a long winter accumulated in the dim corners of your heart? Relief is just a prayer away. He is always ready, willing and able to forgive us our transgressions and allow the new seasons light to shine upon our souls. Confess to your Father and Creator and let the cleansing forgiveness of the new season turn your gray skies to blue. Enjoy the visible things of creation and allow the, “invisible things of Him from the creation of the world” be clearly seen. I will be the first one to declare my dependence on His eternal power. Would you care to join me?
