In a moment of weakness I give in. It's just a little sin, and nobody will ever know. It's not like God will blame me for a moment of pleasure. Well everyone else is doing it. Men have been doing it for ages. On and on the excuses and justifications come to mind when we ponder any sin. Imagine what it means when we "give" in to the tempatation to commit sin. Imagine the bitternes and vile taste that we add to the Lords cup when we give in. Each one of our "little" sins another lash upon the Lords back. Each time we give in "just one more time", one more laboured breath of our Great Lord upon the Cross.
This article started out as a commentary on sexual sin. It was meant as an example of the excuses a man uses to justify why its ok to just give in to the temptation one more time. As I write, I realize I would be a hypocrite if I limited it to just the one topic. Sin in and of itself is inherently bad. Unsavory and bitter to the Lord. To overcome this sin, we must aquire the taste of the Lord. Well how do I do that you ask? To start, we are told to imitate the Lord, strive to be like as unto the Lord. If we are working daily to become as the Lord, then those things wich are abhorent to the Lord will soon find a way to become abhorent to us as well. Sexual sin, wether it is self gratification, infidelity, sex outside of marriage or even homosexuality is a sin against God.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (New Living Translation)
9 Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, 10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.
It is not my intention to bash homosexuals, masturbators or fornicators. I am a man, I am as guilty of the next of some of these sins. It is only by the Grace of God, that I am saved from them.
1 Corinthians 6:18
Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.
Every sin makes the next sin that much easier. If I can sin today, I can sin the next day and the next. It is only through our complete surrender and repentance that we can overcome any sin. I have fought the demons that plague us, and sometimes I lose, but by fighting them, we grow and gain ground against them. These demons can be persistent, they can cause us great pain. They cause doubt and confusion, but when we look unto the Lord, see how each sin adds to his burden, we can over come them.
Psalm 15:1,4 NLT
Who may enter your presence on your holy hill? Those who…keep their promise even when it hurts.
Take a moment, and imagine the Lord upon the Cross. Picture Him in your minds eye, see the blood and sweat pouring from His body as He strains on the cross in His last moments. See the heaving of his chest as he struggles for one more breath. See the pain and sorrow in His eyes. Now look deep into His pained and blood soaked eyes and tell HIM that it means nothing. Tell HIM that everything that HE has done for you doesn't matter. Tell Him, that your sin was just a little sin, and can't HE just bear one more for your sake? Stay in this little moment, and realize that HE can bear one more, and continues to bear "one more" just for you. Now every time you commit one more little sin, let this vision be in your minds eye. Let His face look upon you as you give in once more. If that sin doesn't start to feel a little more abhorent to you, if you dont start to feel a little sick to your stomach every time that little sin pops up, if you can't see what HE did for you, then all I can say is, "May the Lord have Mercy on your Soul."
Don't wait anymore, dont let this world and it's sins control you any longer. Take just one moment and rember the things that the Lord has done for you. It is not this world that we live for, but the next. Start by giving the Lord just a moment of your time. Reflect on the blessings that He has brought into your life. Everyone of them are a sign of His Love for you. Dont throw it away.
